holly's journey to a hot body
Okay I am new to this website. my husband uses it (bigblindjay). He wants me to use it to hopefully egt motivated. I find myself wanting the results but having a hard time keeping motivated to do the work to get what i want.
I have started and stopped excersing many times. I get discouraged alot. I have a hard time scheduling exercise around working, sleeping, school, homework and being a wife and mother. So far this go round i have been using the treadmill for the past 3 weeks for 30-40 mins while watching a recorded tv show to keep me entertained. I started sprinting for a short time and then recovering while slowing down. So far watching a tv show has been helping to keep me from watching the clock and it keeps me on the treadmill longer. i hate the treadmill! but we have no room to get an elipitcal in our basement. I went to a pilates allegro class on tuesday night with a friend and a cardio pilates class today. both classes really kicked my ass. I am so out of shape and have no endurance. I am ready to add lifting I think now and work more on my diet. I have really come along way with my diet so far but there is room for improvement. My husband is trying to help me alot. My main thing is I am so picky and i still want to eat things taht taste good. I dont care for most protein shakes. Hopefully I can stay moivated and comitted. I know if I try hard enough I can get results.
I am currently 150 pounds and 5'3". I really want to be 125 and toned!

Are you going to make out her plan for her? If so...is it going to be similiar to your routine just lighter weights, obviously?
I also want to say I think its great that you are supporting her to live a healthier life...that will help both of you reach your goals together!!
I'm excited to watch you reach your goals

well she is getting a personalized program from team scivation. i am just going to get her started untill she gets the program. if you want you can check it out and get your own personalized diet and trainning program http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showth...hp?t=106268001 the program i will have her do will be simular to mine only more condensed , cause i am on a 4 day split , and she will be on three. i don't want to make it to complex so she doesn't give up after the first week. if she was on my program she would not want to touch another weight again, lol.

Thats wonderful!! I am so thrilled that you will be helping her along the way...I know many women on these boards wish their SO were as involved..lol
Good thinking on starting out slow to get a feel for the lifting, then with time the program can get more intense!
I checked out the link...I think thats wonderful that they are offering that type of service for free and I believe the president lives near me in NC.
Good luck Holly...the ladies on this board are WONDERFUL and were happy to have you join us

Jay, that's really cool that your wife is going to join your quest for fitness.
Might I make a polite suggestion? For beginners, it's usually best to start with a simple whole body routine done 3 times a week. It would look something like this:
Week 1 - 2 sets per exercise; 12-15 reps
Week 2 - 2 sets per exercise; 10-12 reps
Week 3 - 3 sets per exercise; 10-12 reps
Week 4 - 3 sets per exercise; 8-10 reps
Week 5 - 4 sets per exercise; 8-10 reps
Each lifting day you would do the following exercises (barbell or dumbbell):
Squats
Chest Press
Bent over row
Shoulder Press
Upright row
Bicep Curl
Tricep extension
The reason for a whole body routine 3 times a week is to allow the body to slowly get used to lifting with lower daily volume and in case a day is missed that week, no body part is neglected. The first week starts with a lighter weight allowing for an easier execution and to help the trainee get used to the movement and to learn proper form. As the weeks progress, the number of sets is gradually increased, as is the weight used (by lowering the rep scheme).
This is of course just a suggestion. There are many methods out there and I wish you both the best in your fitness goals.

cool thanks man, that sounds like a good idea. i did think about full body workouts for her to start but wasn't sure if it would be to many exercises. but that rutine looks pretty good and covers all the big compounds. thanks bro.

Glad to help. The only move I didn't include was pullups/lat pulldowns because i don't know what equipment you have access to and bodyweight pullups can be hard for a beginner. All the exercises I listed can be done with just barbell/dumbbells and a flat bench.
I made up this program for my wife last year and she liked it a lot. Unfortunately she didn't stick with it, but I think she'll want to start it up again this spring.

thanks! my husband can be a pain in the ass too with all this stuff but if I have to deal with it I might as well join him .
As far as diet a typical day would be like like
breakfast: 2 whole eggs 1 egg white 1 packet of strawberry oatmeal made with 1/2 c milk and a glass of milk (maybe 1/2 c)
snack 10:30 am 1/2 of a protein shake (hubby makes for me to take to work) and 15 almonds
lunch: a lean cuisine or smart ones or sometimes a tuna fish sandwhch and a yogurt or rice pudding (i know rice pudding is bad but sometimes I cant help it)
snack: 2nd half of protein shake (hubby makes for me to take to work) and 15 almonds
dinner: chicken, steak or gorund turkey, vegetable (usually green beans they are my fav.) and rice OR noodles OR potatoes
I am trying to eat less of potatoes or noodles at dinner everyday that i have them i eat a little less.

Why not just do the Tri Phase with Jay. As far as diet is concerned check out the Lifestyle Cut Diet at www.scivationbooks.com.

Oh, I was going to say that another reason why I recommended the training plan I did, is that I think Derek is REALLY backed up.
I sent in my completed questionnaire on the 13th and have not received anything back. I'd guess he's running a 3-5 week lead time on returning a custom program, due to the higher than expected response.
In other words, don't wait to start Holly's training until you get the scivation plan. No time like the present to get started, and a good beginner program will help her get used to some basic exercises that will prepare her well for whatever plan Derek comes up with for her.

Hey Holly!
Just wanted to pop in and say hi, welcome to the boards I think you'll find lots of support here, which will help in keeping you motivated!
New bikinis are always fun! I like to tell myself that I'll buy one as soon as I accomplish certain short term 'goals'
Anyway, good luck! You're off to a great start!

Today I woke up a little later than planned but I still ran on the treadmill for 45 mins! I normally only do 30. I am trying to get up to an hour.
After school I lifted weights in our basement with my hubby Jay.
I did:
squats 45 lbsx15 two sets
flat bench chest press 8 x15 and then 10x 15
bent rows 25x15 and then 30x15
dumbell sholder press 8x15 and 8x12
curls 25x12 two sets
overhead tricep extension 10x15 and 10x 10
and then 100 crunches
In addition to that I took a walk with jason and the baby outside.
I am proud of myself. I cant wait to see some results.
I have become quite found of a mint chocolate flavored protein shake now :-)

Hi Holly! I just wanted to add another welcome to the boards. I'm trying to follow along with as many journals as possible. Journals have taken over my life! lol Seriously though, they are such a great place to find motivation, support, information and ideas.
I look forward to the journey!

day 2 of lifting
yesterday (thursday) was my 2nd day of lifting. In the mroning I woke up again a little late. I was sleeping so good! I still did 45 mins on the treadmill. someone here suggested I increase my time. If I ever wake up early enough I may make it up to 1 hour. after school I lifted weights.
same exercises as Tuesday but increased weight on some and reps on the ones I couldnt make it to 15 reps on tuesday
squats: 45x 15
45x15
chest press 15x 15
15x 13 **I really think if I hadnt hurt my arm/elbow tuesday night I could have made it to 15 reps on this one!
Bent Rows: 30x15
45X15
Dumbbell shoulder press 8x15
8x15
curls 25x15
25x15
overhead tricep extensioons 10x15
10x15
today my elbow feels almost completely better so tomorrow I really hope i can increase a little more! My quads are constantly sore! Will it ever stop!
I am also doing a yoga class on sunday with my best friend.
