Dear Fashion Industry: Our Lats Deserve Respect!
i was inspired by bgurl's thread on equal bra rights and it had me thinking about other rights as well. Like the right for us muscle-y ladies to have designer duds THAT FIT!!
I have experienced frustration when it comes to shopping for blazers, and fitted coats, and when i try on certain formal gowns - and i know a number of you here share that same frustration, if not more!
MY LATS DESERVE RESPECT!!!!
OUR LATS DESERVE RESPECT!!!
My lats were earned from hours, weeks, months of dedication and working towards a symmetrical, fit, toight (like a toiger), figure-comp ready body that DESERVES well-fitted and structured blazers! I'm tired of the shirt/pant portion of the suit fitting perfectly (or semi-perfectly - damn glamour-sizing! ) only to find the blazer does not fit me properly
A little ray of light is, it seems most Tahari suit blazers fit me perfectly - now their skirts/pants it just depends. Seems more hit or miss.
And coats...I bought a purdy rain jacket a few months back only to start donning it recently to find the sleeves came up several inches above my wrists (they sat right at my wrists when i originally tried the rain jacket on). Granted, this is more of a growth issue on my part (yay! ) than a design error on the designers part BUT for purposes of continuing this rant...IT IS THEIR FAULT!
And semi-formal/formal wear with fitted bodices - FORGET IT!
I can tell when i look at it on the rack...i'm thinking - will this fit over my lats?? I have a lovely bridesmaid gown that fit beautifully at a wedding I attended a year ago and i was thinking of converting it to a lovely cocktail dress of some sort....seems like that would be my better bet.
GRRRRR!
That is all

I join you in the GRRRRRRRRRRRR rant!
Our lats deserve respect, as do our shoulders and biceps!
In the Army, they had to custom order my class A jackets to be HUGE, then take them in 4 inches on each side so that they fit my waist.
For those of you not in the Army, you are supposed to be able to salute without everything getting pulled taught and getting all distorted. It's got to be a comfortable movement... well, they don't carry women's uniforms large enough to accomodate the shoulders and biceps I was sporting at that time. I could hardly get my hand to my mouth yet alone salute! lol

Count me in! I've bene in the embarrassing position of trying on a shirt, bringing my arms forward and doing the whole Incredible Hulk shirt-ripping thing!
I've done a few runners from clothes shops before they've noticed (yes I'm bad but they should make clothes to fit!!!!!!)

I agree. I've always had problems finding clothes that fit
How come we haven't started our own clothing line yet ladies?

Someone SHOULD create a line of non-fitness clothes for fitness enthusiasts. That would be awesome.

lololol!! You cracked me up with the image of the hulk. But its so true!! Clothes designers have one image in mind of how people look- but its not the reality. Finding pants that fight right or shirts/dresses, etc. Crazy thing is they make clothes for the super skinny, the supper tall, some petite and the super large-- but not the super muscly kick butt women. Women come in all shapes and sizes, but clothes designers forget that.

i know...we get on this topic so much...i've seen all the threads about jeans that fit and figured hey - we also have a problem with suit jackets/professional wear and formal wear that just won't fit. But i'm 100% with you

um...that still doesn't resolve the problem of having a decent blazer that fits
and...many of us already have tight and/or defined waists so....a corset wouldn't really be helping much there.

Im in for the rant!!!!
For me, its back and shoulders ugh!!! I should buy like a 1x in plus sizes for my dang shoulders, while my waist requires a medium!!!
Thighs are also a problematic issues, esp. with jeans (low cut asscrack riding jeans especially!)

For me, it's the arms! I don't know who decided that sleeves should be super-tight the past year or two, because I have some long-sleeve t-shirts that are a few years old and they fit fine. This year, it's almost impossible to get my arms down the damn sleeves! Some of us have biceps, thanks!

Don't forget the calves, I remember getting my calves stuck in a pair of pegleg pants back when they were in style (I think they are again though) and I've never been able to even try a pair on since!
And tops that aren't too short, since when is 5'9" overly tall? I buy the cute t'shirts and within two washings, they look like they belong to my 10 yo niece!
In HS (a couple years ago ) my amazon friend and I accidentally ended up in the Petites at a posh clothing store, we missed the PETITE sign. We were cracking ourselves up trying on the jackets until some sales lady informed us that we needed to leave the PETITE area because we were NOT petite!!!

You know what I hate about the fashion industry? Vanity sizing. Dear god. You know how demeaning it is to go to a store and buy a size 00?
Like, I am less than a number that is nothing. Less than zero, WTF?!
And to make things worse about vanity sizing, size 00 at the GAP or Abercrombie is like 2 sizes bigger than everywhere else. Great, all the size 8's think they are size 6's. Way to go marketing. It's sickening to think that this works for the female psyche.
I'm not a kid. Stop making me shop in the kids section.
My tailor is making a fortune off me.

... oh I know...
I think chimed in on a thread ranting about booty vs waist ratio - and yeah, same with suit jackets, I seldom have to wear one, so I usually just end up wearing something thats too big all over... which makes me look like I'm some kind of mutant 12 year old. They have plenty of plus sized clothes, petite clothes, juniors etc.... non-fitness clothes for fitness people would be great - its frustrating to look better in your underwear or bikini than in your actual clothes sometimes..... That sounds funny, doesn't it??
HAHA Swole2008, ironically, corsets would make the ratio problem worse... when I wear mine to the club it takes things to an almost cartoonish extreme, but in a good way I guess... definitely not office wear..

I have just been going through the same thing!
GRRRRRRRRRR
pants that are too big around waist and too tight in thighs
shirts that are too tight in arms and lats
bras that now, do not fit
I never, ever thought I would say that I feel better in my gym clothes than anything else at the moment.....
I still need bras!!!

So, I was sure that I could find the answer on BB, but no, just a community of shared despair. Has anyone found any good clothing lines yet that have cute shirts with realistic armholes and pants that are not thigh-strangling baggy waisted highwaters?
I like my naked body more but it seems to be looking worse and worse in clothes.
Seriously I can't believe there are not any labels yet dedicated to us.
