Heart Palpitations - end of my bodybuilding days?

Well I was a big pot smoker from 17-22 and then off and on from then till about 2 weeks ago (I'm 24). I stopped bodybuilding about 7 months ago because I had a job that required me to do a lot of walking and I had no breaks to get the right about of nutrition my body needed. So you could say i was walking about 5 miles a day. I was also smoking a few cigs and some pot a day. About a month of doin this job I started getting heart palpitations and at first I figured it was nothing to worry about and continued on smokin. I went to see a doctor and he said I was healthy and that it was probably the amount of caffeine I was takin. So i cut back on the caffeine and then my palpitations were fewer but I still had them. Even now if I drink tea or alcohol for instance I will get palpitations.

Anyways I put 2 and 2 together and realized it was the smoking/alcohol/caffeine that was worsening the situation. So i've stopped all 3 with some pretty good success. I have quit the job that had me walkin with little nuritionment which I think has done my body good since now I can eat whenever I want and not put my body under a bunch of stress. Anyways I visited that job the other day and I was talking to one of my old coworkers and somehow this kid that worked there got brought up and i was told how he has a heart condition and can't smoke pot. So i decided to have a talk with him and would you believe it he had the very thing I thought I might have. I can't remember the name but it had to do with electrical signals of the heart. He says how he used to smoke 5 times a day just like i would and that he was having palpitations and even blackouts. He can't even have alcohol just like me.

The scary thing was when I asked him "so did the doc say if this would affect your life span?" and replied that he would either outgrow it or have a heart attack in his 30s. So now I begin to feel sick and have cold sweats cause now I'm thinking I'm going to die in my 30s since he did exactly what i did and was having the same symptoms. He was even skinny just like me. Now I plan to get an EKG soon to get checked out but I'm pretty sure my bodybuilding days are over since getting big would require the heart to pump more since Id be bigger and from what I read it's not good for people with this condition I may have. What kind of exercise would you recommend? Just walking? Thanks

Do these palpitations start on their own without any warning, or just upon initiation? Do you feel nauseas when they happen, do you feel weak? If any of these symptoms seem to fit, I would HIGHLY recommend seeing a cardiologist at your earliest convenience. You more than likely have what is called Wolf Parkinsons White (WPW), and you need to go see a cardiologist to get a confirmed diagnosis. I would recommend requesting to see an electrophysiologist while you are there, this is a doctor that specializes in electrical problems in the heart.

WPW is a fairly common heart condition and is usually a very mild and easily dealt with problem. However, in extremely rare cases it can be fatal.

I was diagnosed with this condition not even a month ago, and I was currently cleared medically by 3 different doctors with out fears of problems so that I can go through firefighter training. It is more likely than not the end of your pursuit of physical fitness (in whatever avenue that may be).

Preventive measures can be taken so that these symptoms no longer occur. Get checked out and take it from there. Good luck bud.
