Lived most of my life in New York and New Jersey. It's called a sub there. Here in Massachusetts, they call it a grinder.
Where are you that the word hoagie is used?
edit: Just saw. Pennsylvania.

It's only 2:30 and I'm gonna be here 'til 7. I also have a container of cooked, chopped Turkey in the fridge. I need to space my meals accordingly, you mother-fu<kin' cock suckers.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hoagie
around here in philly we call them hoagies
hoagie= long italian roll (usually from south philly of course) with whatever meat ex)turkey and cheese and lettuce tomato and raw onions and salt pepper oregano and peppers or pickles if you like.
a grinder is a hoagie but we toast it in the broiler to melt the cheese and toast the roll

Thanx for the info. I don't think that much thought goes into it in either New York, New Jersey or Massachusetts.
I just call it a sub.

As far as I know, there wasn't an option. It wasn't a sub shop, just an Italian restaurant. I ordered and they delivered.
Ouala.

All of that and more. Yes.
Soft pretzels, no salt and mustard. FTW!

Ok. I'm eating the other half now. Hopefully, those of you who were outraged earlier can now relax.

and I find calling a male friend a "mate" funny too, but hey who's judging.
I say Sub, but I am fimiliar with all terms and grinder and hoagie are both acceptable.
Op - looks messy but damn good. I would have got it on wheat if possible though.

Me too. Funny, here in America, calling someone a "mate" usually denotes a same-sex partner in a relationship. (no homo)
