Poison Oak isn't an infection, it's an allergic reaction. Anything that dries it out like calamine lotion, etc, will work well (you can go to a Pharmacy and get an alcohol-based rub that will help a lot). I've found that Benadryl or any other anti-histamine that makes you drowsy will help your symptoms AND help you go to bed. The worst is waking up in the middle of the night and scratching it.
I used to landscape so I'd get it very often.

Put it on once a day?
And you think lifting will make it spread more from like sweating?

Ya that is true. Lemme put it this way..when i get it, it gets infected. But hydrogen peroxide is one of the better things to use to get rid of it. and the benadryl is a great suggestion for sleeping.

I usually put it on like 2-3 or whenever it starts to itch really bad.
Next time you think you've been somewhere where there was a chance you got poison oak/ivy, take a shower as soon as possible. It usually helps prevent it.

Well if there is any residual "juice" on your skin, then if you wash it and rub your eyes it can get on your eyes and spread. Just wash it really well, I'd probably take a shower if I were you. The problem is if you wash it halfway and then end up spreading it everywhere.

A product called zanfel is one of the few proven "cures" for urushiol (poison ivy, sumac, and oak) exposure. The stuff is about $40 for a one or two ounce tube, I can't remember which. Only a little needs to be applied. This is going to sound crazy, but this stuff feels so good when you apply it, it's almost worth getting poisoned.
In conclusion, Zanfel is your best friend.

On Salute Your Shorts, Ug took a bath in oatmeal to get rid of the poison oak rash.
Then Michael ate it, threw up over the balcony, and got it all over Thud Mackie - the same one whose brownies Michael sat on earlier in the day.

In all seriousness, if its itchy, rub ice directly on it. I had poison Ivy this summer, and it sucked. I worked at Davey Tree (See pic, lol) and I had it all over my hand, and under my arm pit. I got it, I guess, By picking up and carrying some brush/brances or w/e that had PI on it. Anyways, rubbing ICE directly on it helped cure the itch for a little while.
I also used Technu, I think thats how you spelled it. I washed my boots and clothes with it, because I got PI about a month after I stopped working, because it was on my boots.
Also, if it is terrible, goto the doc and get prednisone. Cleaned me up pretty fast. My **** was BAD, a huge rash under my armpit, because I sweat and it spread allot.

Bleach dries that **** out in no time. I used to get it all the time when I was a kid, but have since formed an immunity. But whenever I got it on my feet or legs I would dilute it in some water in a bucket and soak it for a while. Worked great.

My dad swears by the bleach remedy -always has. I usually get it so bad I go to the doctor to get some steroids for it.
If you really want to cure it up, mix up some of dat dere celltech into a thick paste and rub it on there -its better than the roids.

Quick bullet points:
- By the time the infection appears, the oil from the Poison Oak plant has already been absorbed into the skin. It can't be spread by wiping the skin at that point.
- Prednisone on a titrated scale (descending potency) is the only real "cure". You'll be on it for at least a week.

Dude, I'm not a rep for them or anything, but that product my be one of the most worthwhile purchases I've ever made. It's better than sex.
Well maybe not girlfriend sex, but it rivals random hook-up sex.

So you put it on your skin by a towel, how long you leave the towel over the skin?

The only time the oils from the plant can actually "spread" on the skin is during the initial infection period - right after the plant touches or rubs against the skin. If you were sweating when you came in contact with it, then yes - the oils can spread causing a greater area of infection.
The oils is absorbed into the skin rather quick, all told. The working theory is that washing the area within 10 minutes of contact will likely sidestep a problem. A shower will get rid of any and all oil residue.
Cliffs:
- At this point, no. Sweating will not cause it to spread.
---------------------------
No health insurance sucks. Look up any free clinics in the area or head into an area ER and file paperwork for Free Care, or its equivalent. That looks bad enough that any self-respecting doc would write out a script.
