Hurray, hopefully it'll be sorted out before the year is out but it's going to take a while for Anderson Silva to get his boxing skills up to scratch.

Roy would knock him out in a 12 round fight, Silva would tap roy in the first round in a cage fight. I don't see how silva could gain anything from going inot a boxing ring other then boxers (even over the hill ones like roy) make 10 times plus what a mma champ makes.
I guess the real question for Silva is, is it worth getting a pretty much automatic loss in a boxing ring for a chance to make what he prolly makes for 3 or 4 fights.

I thought for a second they were talking about Sylvia and not Silva. Sylvia could knock out Roy Jones Jr.
If they want to bring a MMA fighter into boxing, at least get someone who is known for strong punching. Once they put on the boxing gloves it is going to eat up a lot of power and most MMA fighters will have a hard time KO'ing a professional boxer.
If Sylvia is too large to fight Roy Jones Jr then bring in Chuck Liddel.
Nobody is going to watch the spider fight Roy Jones Jr.
I doubt this fight will happen. A couple years ago Roy Jones Jr expressed interest in fighting Mike Tyson for a large PPV paycheck but it never happened.Last edited by Baseball_Guy; 03-19-2008 at 03:17 AM.

jones would beat tim with ease he roy would throw 5 puches in the same time it takes sylvia to throw a jab .Any good boxer would love to fight liddell with his haymaker style.
thats under plain boxing rules
a boxer wouldnt be able to fight mma because they dont train in takedown defence or ground wrestling.

I think everyone is missing something here and under estimating Anderson's skills. Sure RJJ has good hand as was lighting quick with big power but, that was 6 years ago. He is old slow and un motivated now in terms of boxing.
If you think about it normally Anderson has to worry about punches, kicks, takedowns, getting slammed from the clench and whatever else. In this fight all he has to worry about is getting punched in the head and body. The guy doesn't get hit or taken down too often defending against many different types of strikes in MMA why would he get hit with just punches so much in boxing? You also have bigger gloves to defend yourself with and take some of the punch power away with.
All it takes is one punch, just like in MMA. Ask Glen Johnson and Antonio Tarver.

IT would be a 50 50 chance in either fight.
in mma anderson has the clinch that if jones got in it would be over. but its 50 50 only because Anderson silva will not take jones jr down in the cage so it will be all stand up...my reason is this if anderson called roy jones jr out to challenge him in his own sport then anderson is that type of dude who will want to challenge his hands or striking again in the cage.
For him its not about winning its about testing his striking against a top level boxer, I like anderson silva for that he is a dope dude.
And jones jr shouldn't be fighting anymore! he already said if he fights anderson silva he will just outbox him and not go for the KO if he has him hurt...someone posted here that jones jr doesnt wanna hurt someone anymore because of seeing what happen to mclellan and his brain damage.
my question is why does roy jones jr even bother cause Anderson silva will knock him out when he gets the chance.

um yes he can, Because Roy Jones jr doesnt want to HURT guys anymore...he said he will just try to out box anderson silva for 10 rounds.
like he did in his last fight with tito trinidad after knocking trinidad around he didnt finish him.
I am telling you one of andersons straight punch will hurt jones, and anderson is a South paw! Jones jr got knocked out by a southpaw named antonio tarver.
watch Jones glass jaw, and Silva has a Granite chin.

roy jones jr. would destroy any MMA fighter in a boxing match... he held the heavyweight boxing title at one time.... tim sylvia would get mangled... anderson silva will get KTFO.... this is a dumb move by silva and a potentially embarassing loss for MMA in general.....
good thing dana white is a smart man and will never let this happen..

He won one belt against John Ruiz. If he beat either of the Klitscho brothers(sp), Lennox Lewis, or even Holyfield you'd have a point but, ruiz my friend?
Neither guy has nothing to gain from this fight except a boat load of money.
The only one who has something to lose is RJJ, which surprises me that he took the challenge we all know he ducks things he can't win 100%. If Silva wins, people will say a non boxer beat one of the all time greats.
If RJJ wins people will say Silva wasn't a boxer doesn't mean anything.
I have my big 6 rep power on Silva

lmao lawsuit coming from dana white if silva does that.
Silva said he doesn't wanna fight jones jr in MMA even if jones jr said ok, he said this is just one of his dreams to go against one of his idols , silva seems like he wants to test himself he is an all around competitor in my opinion plus he knows if it was mma he would demolish jones jr with a thai clinch and its over so it wouldn't be a challenge to him.
