Egg whites??
Hey ladies, just a quick question...
When you make your egg whites, do you buy regular eggs, and just throw away the yoke? Or am I the only one who 'wastes' half the egg?? I'm posting this because I feel kind of guilty here, and I want to know what you ladies do...??

I personally buy the liquid egg whites! Much easier...
You can eat the yolk in moderation..there are good vitamins in them!
Hope that helps..

I have recently started doing both....sometimes I buy the egg beaters because I just don't always have the time to separate out the yolkers...however, when I do eat regular eggs I always put a yoke or two in there. They are really, really good for you

During the week, I boil them while I get ready for work, then peel and toss the yolks. On the weekends, I'll scramble them without the yolk. Do whatever works for you. No need in feeling guilty about being healthy. Feel guilty when you eat something that does not contribute to fat loss/muscle gain.

I use egg beaters (or generic liquid egg whites) and scramble them, but whatever works best for you. If I'm craving a hard-boiled egg I'll just throw out the yolk after cooking, but mostly I like scrambled anyway.

I give the yolks to my dog, he loves them and it keeps his coat shiny.

I buy cartoned egg whites and regular eggs. I like to throw in a whole egg now and again. Sometimes I'll use regular eggs and keep the egg yolk and use it as a face mask. Super good for your skin!!!

I buy whole eggs and throw away the yolk. But saving for the dog is definitely a good idea. I honestly never even thought about that.

I've never been to a store where there hasn't been an abundance of eggs...it's not like you took something someone else was going to use and now they don't have access to it. And it's not as though we live in a depression era where any of your neighbors could really use those nutrients if the bakery runs out of bread before they have a chance to use their ration stamps...children in impoverished nations don't have access to your yolks whether you eat them or not.
Maybe you can bake cakes for your co-workers with your leftover yolks so your diet will seem even more successful as you fatten them up.
Did any of that make you feel better or did that not address your particular wastfulness concern?
I personally buy pasturized egg whites so I don't have to hassle with "nature's packaging." I should probably work up a guilt complex about not recycling...

Liquid egg whites are just ridiculously expensive...I'd rather buy twice as many eggs for half the price, and then I can decide how many egg yolks to add if I want to.

I buy both eggs and a big carton of egg whites. I eat one whole egg and add egg white from the carton. This way I'm not wasting yolks
I don't find the whites to be all that expensive for what they are. To get the same amount of white I'd have to crack at least that cost in whole eggs. And- I just stock up when they're on sale and end up with some coupons usually too.

LOL!!! I actually do make cookies & things for the guys I work with, and they always accuse me with that!! Yes, that does make me feel better. I was brought up in one of those houses where, if you 'wasted' food, it was a sin. I guess that's where my guilt comes from...
Thanks!!

See, I've never actually purchased the egg whites, so I didn't know how much $$ they were. This makes me feel like I'm not wasting my $$. Thank you.
And everyone else, thanks for your replies. It is true that every once and a while I do eat the yoke as well. So it is nice for those days.
I always throw the yokes away when I hard boil them though, I think they taste like chalk when they're cooked this way.

I can get a carton of egg white that has 16 servings (equiv. to 16 eggs) for $2 (on sale 2/$4). Pretty much the same. It's cheaper to get the whites if I'm comparing to the free range organic eggs I generally get. It's about the same if I'm comparing it to conventional eggs. But that's my store and I've seen that prices in different parts of the country can vary significantly, so...

yeah, I live in the pacific NW, where EVERYTHING is WAY over priced, unless its organic... I haven't looked at the prices of just the egg whites, but I know I pay $4 for a carton of free range organic eggs, and those are the the cheapest ones!! I live on an island, so unless its organic, its so much $$$. Everything else has to be imported from the 'main land'
