    Back Shooting Pain When Squating

A couple of years ago i used to get quite bad back ache. This past year though it has really died down as posture and exercise have helped. I've started heavy squatting and dead lifting recently with 3 sets of 6-10 reps (I dont squat and dead lift on the same day).

Anyway when i first tried dead lifting i would get shooting pains up my back for the first two reps and then i would not get any for the next four. I filmed myself and i had poor form and i've corrected my dead lift form and it is now really good - no shooting pain in back.

With squats however i've filmed my form and compared it to several tutorial videos and looked up form and technique in several books and it seems good. When i take off the barbell from the rack with it behind my neck i get shooting pains quite bad in my back. They subside quickly until i go down for my first rep and on the way down and up they come back, once again i get the pain for the first two reps and then its unnoticeable for the next four. I wondered if its breathing so i've tried inhaling and tensing my abdomen on the way up, plus inhaling and tensing before and holding on the way up and down. Doesn't seem to make any difference. I dont seem to be getting any aching in my back the next day either, so i just wondered if my backs sensitive and its just my back getting compressed under heavy weight? Any Ideas?

    THAT IS NOT NORMAL

Go see a doctor. If you keep doing things that cause pain you're going to suffer. What if you have a herniated disk? Wait till you blow it out?

DOCTOR! They have big expensive machines.

ANYTIME you have a shooting or sharp pain STOP what the fck you are doing immediately. Burning, aching, throbbing, pain are all OK, shooting and sharp pains are injuries happening. Go see a doctor.

Sorry mate but the back is a complex area, best taken care of by a specialist.
