i've always assumed that it's genetics. I like that mine aren't perfectly round.

well hammer curls use the bracialas (dunno how to spell it) its the centre part of your bicep and it pushes the outer part out, making your arm look bigger.
But if you want to make the outer part bigger than straight curls hit that or try preacher or inclined curls.
