HIIT and Bulk
What's up guys, I've been looking in to the idea of starting up a HIIT program along with my weights. I competed a rather successful cut since January, and am ready to begin eating big again. I've been training hard for years and have experimented alot, so my diet is in check. The thing is, I have always despised cardio and during my cut the only cardio I did was long bouts of low intensity (I studied while I was on the elliptical or bike, so it wasn't as bad). I just want to know who has experimented with HIIT, how they organize it, and if it is contraindicative for a bulk. Thanks in advance!

I know people at my school, and on here who perform HIIT after their workouts and/or on their off days and see excellent results. I myself used to exercise heavily day in and day out, with cardio and weights both on the same day. Some would say it was a bit over-kill, however I adapted to it and it got me in great shape for rugby. I'm injured now, so I can't compete as intensly as before, but that;s another story for another time. Point is, I believe that HIIT plays a pretty big role not only in simply keeping you in good cardiovascular healthy, but it also plays a pretty big role in nutrient partitioning.
With HIIT incorporated successfully into one's workout regimen, I believe it will help yield excellent results, even on a bulk. However you must also make sure your diet is solid as well. Start off with some HIIT on you're days off from weight training. If you like it, and think you can perform it after your workout, give it a go on a day when you're feeling energetic.

Thanks for the reply...like I said, my diet is pretty solid so I'm not worried about that aspect. Along the lines of nutrition though, would it be wise for me to bring along some whey to mix in some water in between weights and cardio? I realize that HIIT is meant to be short, however intense, and I want to make sure I'm not muscle wasting while completing it.
Anyone else done some HIIT work while bulking? Any feelings?

I plan to do it in a few weeks when I start my clean bulk. I'm going to do it twice a week on off days for only 10-12 minutes as opposed to 20 minutes on my cut.

To you fellas that use HIIT, do you use a 2:1 ratio of less intense:intense exercise, or some other ratio? Also, how much time do you allot overall for your cardio?

5 min warm up
45 seconds half speed, 15 seconds all out...for 15 intervals
10 min cool down.
is how I do it,
if I'm doing hill/stair sprints, its kind of hard to really time, so just set a distance you know.
