Acne a possible cure
Acne is the nightmare that some of us are unfortunate to suffer. It can really cause your entire life to suffer, and the low self-esteem that comes with it is hard to shake.
I suffered badly with acne on my face, neck, back, and chest. I tried everything and nothing worked. Every online source and doctor i met advised me of creams or antibiotics.
For a while i suspected my diet could be the root but, looking online i saw that every site read the same "no studies show that diet effects acne".
But after a discussion with a specialist i realised that diet may be the root, and although these website weren't lying they were misleading people.
The truth is that studies are funded by pharmaceutical companies. These companies won't fund a study that doesn't help them sell anything. There is absolutely no benefit to a pharmaceutical company to fund a study into diets as they will make no return for their investment. Doctors are also tied due to this as they cannot say for a fact diet does effect it, neither can i but it's worth a try isn't it?
I now have relatively clear skin with only the odd blemish. Sometimes i look in the mirror and nearly pass out when i see my skin. Compared to how it was, all those years of antibiotics and creams that bleached all my clothes could have been substituted for a few easy steps.
First of all i cut all fried food from my diet, nothing fried went near my lips, secondly i cut down on dairy (skimmed milk or soya good alternative). I also increased the amount of veg i ate and fruit. Along with drinking vast amounts of water i began to see an improvement, after 1 - 2 weeks. The reason for this period is because your body requires time to flush out all the crap (aka detox).
Secondly i began a wash regime first thing in the morning and last thing at night. I found this online and decided to give it a go.
What you need:
Neutral soap (i use dove as it's relatively gentle and doesnt irritate)
Benzoyl Peroxide 2.5 aqual gel. (needs to be 2.5)
Alcohol free moisturiser (match this to your skin type)
Step one:
With the soap gently using your hands wash the effected areas. Wash cloths harbour bacteria so use your hands. (dont scrub as this will irritate your skin be gentle)
Then rince with warm water. Pat dry, don't rub as this will irritate your skin.
Wait until skin is fully dry usually 5 - 10 mins.
Step two:
Now the trick is to use loads of benzoyl 2.5, (note if your skin is irritated then stop for a few days and start again, if you have any other reaction contact your doctor immediately!! please also follow the instructions on the packaging.) using your fingers wipe the benzoyl peroxide over the effected areas, not just on individual spots. Do not rub the benzoyl peroxide in, just wipe a good covering over the area.
Leave this to dry, could take 15 minutes +.
Wash your hands immediately as benzoyl can bleach clothing.
Step 3:
Moisturise, try to use as little moisturiser as possible, apply some moisturiser and wait a minute or so if your skin is still dry add more. The moisturiser will probably lift some benzoyl so make sure you wash your hands again afterwards.
And then DONT TOUCH THE AFFECTED AREAS DURING THE DAY!!
Benzoyl peroxide has an oxidising effect on the skin, in which spots can't form. Why 2.5? not sure but for me it has worked.
I'm not claiming the above is a cure all i'm saying is it worked for me, when i'd just about given up all hope. It may work for you it may not, but it's always worth a try. Also i am not a qualified medical advisor so please read the packaging and if you have further queries speak to your doctor!!
All i can say is that give it a try, taking into consideration the guidlines on the packaging of the products, and hey whats cutting fried foods out of your diet for two weeks? I don't miss them at all!!
Let me know how you get on!
Cheers

Acne caused by a multitude of things. Genetics is the number one determinant. If your parents had bad acne, you will too. The solution for this is antibiotics, like accutane, doxycycline, or minocycline. Diet does play a part, but a minimal one. Beware of dairy products if you are prone to acne because the hormones in the milk are not meant to be taken in large amounts once puberty has started. That doesn't mean that you don't need calcium, it means that you need to find another way of fulfilling your calcium needs. Bodybuilding will increase testosterone levels, and you may experience more acne due to the fact. But in all seriousness, acne is mainly caused by genetics and puberty. Diet, sun, and washing your face will get you no where if you are predisposed to acne at a moderate or severe level. It's just a fact. If you are struggling with it, get on antibiotics. If your doctor won't give you them, see another one.
Edit: And to OP, the reason you may being seeing a lot less is because you are now 22. Your hormone levels have dropped since puberty usually ends at around 18.

That's not a cure by the looks of it but I bet it gets rid of the Acne while in practice.
I follow a similar regime and my face is quite spotless. I use BP every week or 2 weeks, when I first got it I put it on every day, it dried my face out to hell and it scarred me, I thought it was bringing out the scars in my face and then them peeling off but obviously not, I did that 3 times and realised it was burning me, so I only put it on about once every 2 weeks, seems to work ok and is a plus since I don't have to use so much of it because it's not healthy.
I also use a Loofah in the shower and scrub my face with that, I think that has helped and is sure to help get rid of scars over time.

good post. All that medical stuff is a bunch of BS IMO. For the past years I thought it helped, but recently found it just made my skin worse.
After cleaning up my diet, drinking water, stopping all the antibiotics and topical bull**** it is much much better than it has ever been.

No i dont think so, my parents have great skin i'm the only one who doesn't so it isn't all about genes!! If i eat fried food, and stop my washin regime then i flare straight back up!
I was put onto 3 course of roaccutane, they advise only taking one if it persists two but i went on 3 with no effect, i just got really dry skin, spots stayed!!
Main thing to remember is everyone is diferent what works for one doesn't always work for all. I just posted this to let people know what worked for me after years of crap!
Good luck!!

GENETICS
I've had it since I was 13, I've tried creams, washing everyday, not washing everyday, all cotton clothes, anti bacterial soaps.
At the moment my diet is 100% natural food, I drink ~6 Liters a day, I've avoided starchy foods, sugar, excess salt and I don't drink milk.
I have noticed no correlation in skin condition relating to diet.

I live in the American Gardens Building on W. 81st Street on the 11th floor. My name is Patrick Bateman. I'm 27 years old. I believe in taking care of myself and a balanced diet and rigorous exercise routine. In the morning, if my face is a little puffy, I'll put on an ice pack while doing stomach crunches. I can do a thousand now. After I remove the ice pack I use a deep pore cleanser lotion. In the shower I use a water activated gel cleanser, then a honey almond body scrub, and on the face an exfoliating gel scrub. Then I apply an herb-mint facial mask which I leave on for 10 minutes while I prepare the rest of my routine. I always use an after shave lotion with little or no alcohol, because alcohol dries your face out and makes you look older. Then moisturizer, then an anti-aging eye balm followed by a final moisturizing protective lotion.
LOL. I have something almost like acne, but not quite, because I've gone through about every routine besides accutane possible.
p.s. you are NOT a pussy for not using accutane. That can f*ck you up, not to mention that one of the side effects is muscular dystrophy...

I was on 'accutane' for 3 courses, even though you are only mean't to do 2, and it didn't help i felt like crap for the whole time, all it did was dry my skin out. I also tried laser surgery, which did help a little but again they still came back! It's amazing the lengths we will go to to rid ourselves of acne. You seem like you have a full on routine there for cleansing each day.
As i keep saying everyone is different if you have alternative advice please post it here, a balanced argument is the best argument!

over a gallon of water a day and benzoyl peroxide in the morning on my face and at night before i go to bed is what works wonders for me. You also have to wash your face with water about 6-9 times a day. Just water.

acne can absolutely be caused by diet. i'm not talking about myths like eating chocolate or greasy foods, but paying attention to things like glycemic index and glycemic load made a huge difference in my face. i was practically in the dermatologist 2x a week getting cortisone injections and i was constantly getting prescriptions but nothing was working. i was also getting terrible dermatitis and my hair was turning grey. eventually i lowered my carbs per meal/type of carbs, stopped dextrose and whey postworkout out. everything stopped pretty quickly and i was on no pills or creams at all. there was a post and study over at lyle mcdonald's site about this but hes seemed to haved cleared out his forums

Huh. This information is all vexing.
I'm on a no-carb diet, healthy fats. I drink 2 gallons of water a day. I generally shower 2x a day, and exfoliate pretty hardcore. I use a benzoyl peroxide based med, and a salicylic acid based one.
So, I guess if I actually did have acne, it would be owned by this point.

I was always told not to exfoliate, as when you exfoliate your body over compensates to lubricate your skin causing spots. Also exfoliating irritates the skin which can lead to spots.

Some great feedback here thanks.
Another old remedy that my nan swears by is taking Andrew's sea salts twice a day. Mix them with water and drink down in one. They clean out your insides stopping buildups in your intestine that can block your bowl function. I do this for a week once a month as a kind of detox.
Again this is just something my nan recommends, not a cure nor is it based on any proven facts. But like most things in the quest to get rid of spots it's worth a try.
