"The Iron never lies to you. You can walk outside and listen to all kinds of talk, get told that you're a god or a total bastard. The iron will always kick you the real deal. The Iron is the great reference point, the all-knowing perspective giver. Always there like a beacon in the pitch black. I have found the Iron to be my greatest friend. It never freaks out on me, never runs. Friends may come and go, but two hundred pounds is always two hundred pounds."

Diet cardio and decication man, alot of all that. you WILL get very nice abs if you do that but 90% of the time you WILL not be able to get them as bulgy huge as a bodybuilder on steroids. DON'T take steroids just to get abs either man. You can get abs that will have the skirts chasin you after about 2 to 3 months probably.

Come on you guys, some of you could have given a better reply than simply HGH, he's 17 years old you want to tell him the only way to get it is steroids or growth hormones, thats just kinda wreckless I think. back him up and tell him the full truth it is possible to obtain abs close to bodybuilders, now i said close not the same but who knows with great genes and a few other things you could have it maybe.

WEIGHTED AB WORKOUTS! Bottom line...
Try decline bench crucnches with 5-10 pounds...work your way up to 45lb plate for 8-10 reps if you can without using your hips and upper legs to pull yourself up. I also love to put a 5-10 pound DB between my legs and do lower leg cruches off the end of a flat bench..WORKS FOR ME! oh and having a great diet and low BF will obviously play a role in how ones abs look and how defined they are, but to have them increase mass like any other muslcle you must train them like one, i also stay in the 10-20 rep range with the weights, no need to do 1000 crunches when you use weights as well, another reason why i swear by them,i can get abs done in 5 minutes at the end of a heavy lifting session any day!Z-MONEY

I know i don't have the best abs but i feel i've come a long way. I would greatly recommend hitting them 2-3x a week. 2 light days 1 hard day... Make sure you train your abs like your chest or any other major muscle group. You can do a 500 situps a day but what is that going to do? You ever see ppl benching the bar 100x to get a large chest? The key to good abs is using them. When doing situps focus on quality not quantity. It's all about isolation. Also, try hanging suspended leg raises w/ a added weight... and doing a dropset/like exercise. do 8-12 reps w/ weight and drop the weight and go till failure. That's a great way to fry your abs in a hurry.

OP- have you ever seen a pic of a modern day pro from the side while on stage? disgusting. bodybuilders take alot of crap that you dont wanna take to get "thick" abs like that, and ive met very few females who actually find it that attractive. HOWEVER, you can get abs like the fitness models on the covers of magazines very quickly if you can work hard. remember, cardio! abs show up best when they dont have to fight bodyfat to be seen! also, your abs are muscles, just like your bis and tris. train them the same. you want to use a weight thats gunna keep you in the 8-12 rep range for max growth.

Most pros want a slim waist but when they're supplementing like they are all of their muscles grow, including the abs. A lot of pros do little or no ab training and if they are, they arent including weight or any type of resistance. Dexter Jackson just started training his abs a couple of years back.
Also, if you're doing heavy compound excersizes like squats and deads, you are working your core (abs). The more overall size you gain, the more abs you will get.If this were easy, everyone would do it!

basically train them with weights and stay lean, but really they won't look like a pro's until you weigh 260 and take drugs like they do. get a nice 6 pack, chicks love it.

well heres my response to your question, the way your abs will look is a matter of genetics. but you can definitely get that hard brick look by working them out on a weekly basis at least 3 times WITH RESISTANCE. dont just do body weight crunches or leg raises. use some weight and treat your abs just like you would any other muscle when it comes to building them up. i actually do abs every single day, now i dont use weight every day though and run the risk of an injury. i use resistance 3 times a week and the other two i use bodyweight mostly. but this is what works for me, maybe you doing them a couple times a week is enough, but remember that to see your abs you'll have to be at a relatively low bodyfat %. good luck.

The how question is all answered by the STERIODS.
Why should you want such ABS like the Mr.Olympia's and all competitors?!?!
Are you preparing to become the next Mr.Olympia or what?!!
Some BB's overdo training and also their thoughts toward personal goals.
You can be happy with a symmetric body and nice abdominal low body fat %
Why should you spoil your body with the roids!?!?
Even the competitors to BB championships are moronics(to say the least)
If we want to view it from the business money part, it's a total stupid reason because even Mr. Olympia only take 100000$ and his expenses for championship preparation is much more.
From the body shape beauty, you can attract ladies without taking roids and without such thick bad view bodies of BB championships competitors!!!
Even fitness magazines would pick you for a cover issue if you have a nice body without that tick from taking steriods.
Even you can become a professional model making money and business from your body without the steriods intake.
I believe the only thing you want other than a good nutrition diet plan and right form training is a good whey protein brand to fulfill your protein daily intake since food alone can't reach you that amount without costing you much much money, in this said whey protein is cheaper just to add to your diet, not it being the basic point.
Besides, BB's who have high % of body fat and want to decrease it fast, can try a good fat burner from a reputable brand to fasten the metabolism process and hit the stubborn skin fat.
All by all with a good training and diet plan.

The main way the pros do it: Once you are squatting and deadlifting massive amounts of weight, the lift in itself becomes an ab workout, just to prevent your body from breaking/crumbling under the tremendous load it is bearing.
If you look at my pictures, you will notice I have very thick, well developed abs. You should read my article I just posted on exercise selection/avoiding plateaus. I am surprised my articles on here are getting no responses, because I know it is new information for many of you.
The way to get thick muscular abs is by working abs heavy, like any other bodypart. Dragonflags, weighted decline situps, inverted(hanging upside down) situps, that is how to build the muscle, like any muscle. Just be careful not to injure your spine, and know the difference between "good" (muscular) pain and "bad" (nerve, bone, connective tissue) pain. Usually bad pain is sharp.
Hope that helps!

Oh yes, and obviously the pros are on steroids... but A LOT of people are on steroids, and are not pros. They are the elite of the sport for a reason, and it is more than drugs.
And I also concur that abs are made in the kitchen. However, what your abs look like, as well as how defined they are at a certain bodyfat %, will be determined by how you work them out.
Due to my very heavy ab training, I have can have visible abdominal deffinition at a much higher bodyfat % than most people. It creates the illusion that I am leaner than I actually am.
