tmj problems
Is anyone currently suffering from tmj or other jaw related issues due to boxing/martial arts activities? I haven't had problems with mine in years but recently started having trouble again. I am primarily interested in seeing if anyone diagnosed with such problems is continuing to fight, or knows of anyone who is still fighting with these problems. Common sense tells me I should quit at least on a competitive level, but I hate to think this is the end of the road for me in the ring.

Idk all I know about TMJ is this freshman my sophmore year gave really ****ty head cause she had TMJ and I ended up just getting a handjob during history class in the auditorium by all her freshman friends.
More on the point if my jaw isn't clench and I get popped I get ****ed up like what I assume TMJ is until the spot heals sometimes days sometimes weeks.
I can't really see how it would be a problem in your path to being a fighter though.

I suffer from TMJ problem (car accident) this would be good to know.. It's been years but the problem still effects me, I worry about striking specifically because my jaw doesn't feel solid at all.

I've had TMJ for....well, probably 17 years (guessing)...I got in a fight in high school and took a shot to the jaw that started the problems. That and I grind my teeth like a mad man when I sleep.
Anyways...the only problems I have with it is if I'm grappling and someone puts forearm presure on my jaw. Then my jaw is VERY stiff, and it takes a couple of days to feel normal again. But I've been cracked in the jaw sparring a couple of times and haven't had any real problems...yet....but we'll see....lol.

I've had it as long as I can remember. Its always been very unstable and has done everything from lock to crackle, pop, and hinder my ability to eat. I got popped in the jaw a few years ago and it was probably the worst pain I have ever felt in my life. I couldn't move my jaw for a solid two days. I've also had it lock in place for a minute or two. Its pretty bad...

I've had TMJ for a while, my jaw used to pop a lot and if I ate a big meal my jaw would be kinda sore for a couple of hours. I've been taking glucosamine + chondroitin + msm for almost two years now and it's like night and day. My jaw rarely ever pops now and it doesn't get sore from eating, s**t I can even chew gum again. I'd suggest taking a good joint supplement and getting a custom mouthguard and you should be fine, although from what I've read I have a pretty mild case of TMJ, a lot worse symptoms than what I have.
BTW I have been blasted a few times in Muay Thai smokers/sparring and my $20 Brain Pad worked just fine, I'm sure when I get my custom that it will be even less of an issue.

It was part of the reason I didn't date her she had big boobs but I was a shallow soph and couldn't get around the no head concept. She was also kinda short.
