Halfway there....270 to 240 to.....
Here's some progress photos. Started at 270 lbs at the beginning of December '07 and now I'm just under 240 lbs during the first week of March '08. I think I'm about halfway there, maybe slightly over halfway. I think I'll end up at my "visual goal" by the time I reach 215-220 lbs. What do you guys think?
(note: I'm drug free.....reference my past threads / posts..)

Does the final goal of 215-220 lbs seem right? (That's another 20-25 lbs from the recent photos)

Any guesses on the bodyfat? I'm saying I'm around 14-15% in the recent photos.....that's why I'm saying that I'll end up around 215-220 lbs when I'm done. I haven't been near 220 since college (7 years ago).

I would say 13-15% would be a good estimate, but nobody can give you a very accurate one.

Lookin big man, i'd have to guess like 12-13%bf, I think you may be able to be cut up with less than 20lbs lost, it doesnt appear that you have very much fat

Well, I have to say, when I first started this cut at 270, I thought I would end up near the 230 mark. It's very surprising to see how much fat actually is on one's frame. Being 6'-2", I guess it hides easier! So, after the first 30 lbs, I've re-evaluated my ending weight.

You seem to have lost a majority of your fat, and you look like you hold the rest of it in your midsection like me. 20 pounds I would say would be the most you have to loose if you are going for the "shredded" look. Great progress man, reps

Not long! I plan on doing in it in smaller time periods than before. One thing I've learned from all of this.....keeping it under 15% at all times will probably lead to a better overall composition. Gains might be slower, but I can tell you one thing.....being 270 lbs IS NOT FUN!

I'm telling ya....I felt like crap at that weight. Honestly, I don't think I lost much muscle mass, if any, from what I had. My strength has remained the same too surprisingly. I feel so much better at this weight. I'm gonna try for the lean gains from here on out.....
Of course, that's what I say now......

Oh, by no means am I stopping the mass gain....I just want to limit my bodyfat to a lower %. I doubt that I'll be able to naturally gain much more mass....maybe 20-30 lbs. Really, though, if I get to 250 lbs @ 10%, how much more would I want?
Triceps - close grip bench, reverse grip bench, skullcrushers....the norm....nothing fancy.

This stinkin' midsection fat is annoying! I've definitely lost a good bit around my waist, but it seems as if that's where most of it is stored.

Advice
Hello, looked at your pictures and you look great. It seems like we are alot alike. Right now I'm about 250. Not fat, but far from ripped. I'm lifetime steroid-free, and been lifting for fifteen years (I'm 31 now). I'm pretty big and I'm the strongest guy in the gym on some lifts. My question is how are you able to lose the fat without losing muscle. I've tried many, many times in my life and I actually lose equal amounts of muscle and fat, which defeats the whole purpose. I've tried doing moderate cardio and moderate dieting. I've tried just dieting without much cardio. I even, out of desperation, tried dropping fatty foods from my diet completly and eating much healthier than I normally do. All gave almost exactly the same bad results: My weights in the gym plummet. How are you able to drop the weight without losing strength? Do you do cardio? Do you take alot of protein? How healthy have you been eating? Please help as much as you can. Thanks, Kenny.

Probably the best thing to do is take a look at this Layne Norton article:
http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/layne36.htm
He covers lots of topics involving the fat loss portion of a diet. This is GREAT advice and I do something very similar to it. Keep the weight (fat) loss to 2-3 pounds per week....no more than that. In the article it covers cardio as well.

Outstanding article. As funny as it sounds, I've never taken extra protein while dieting. I believed that the importance of protein was overstated. I no longer believe that. Thanks for the help.

and....
I always did low-intensity cardio. There's some great info on the muscle-sparing benefits of high-intensity cardio, which I actually prefer because it's not as boring. This is great info for anyone else who has had the same problem as me with muscle loss during dieting.

Yeah, there's alot of good info in there. I'm definitely a believer in HIT cardio now too.
