What is you age and weight if not listed under AVI? How long have you been training steady this time (do not count previous training cycles with long breaks in between). How many Strict Pushups can you do?
A strict pushup is a full lockout of the arms and then chest to the floor (touch). Half reps/ third reps do not count.
The reason I am asking is... I am trying to get a pulse on the over 35 ability's and want a cross section (for a group target) for body weight exercise.

Don't know fort a few reasons. I don't do normal pushups, decline is all I do with my feet on a bench. And I have never gone to the point of complete breakdown as I always strive to maintain form. Typically I will go to 20 for 3 sets, will have to try someday to see what my max is in one set.

In my peak, after some serious calisthenics training, I would gas out at exactly 52/53, strict form. I tried the other day and barely got to 30.
Edit: 23 years old, and back when I could do 50 or so, I was 185, c. 12% body-fat. Now ten pounds heavier and much weaker.thinks of his mother when fapping CREW

'Bout tree-fiddy.
Oh, c'mon, you KNEW someone was going to say that.
For me, my form starts to break down around the thirty mark. I realize that's not a lot, but I do multiple sets with my routine and keep the rest periods between rounds as short as possible."Don't call me Miss Kitty. Just...don't."--Catnip. Check out the Catnip Trilogy on Amazon.com

I'm a complete beginner, barely started doing any training just yet so maybe my results will be a bit of a baseline? Found out my gym isn't open past 6pm on Saturday.. doh! So did some pullups and pushups at home. The pushups I did were straight bodied, nose and nadgers to the ground on each one. I did 21 before failure, rested well, managed 18, rested well again and managed 17.

At 73, with wt around 170, I generally do 3 to 4 sets of 25 pushups (vary, them...decline, incline, diamond, etc.) every other day. Without a break, I can still knock out around 45.

Your core will drain some of your strength. Even though PU's work the chest and tri's it also works the entire body holding a moving plank.
I am going to video tape myself doing pushups today to see how many I can do at the weight of 281lbs.
The reason I need to know is we are going to have a local contest for "who in our community" can do a certain amount of reps at a specific age and above.http://www.hollandreflexology.com/

This purely my opinion, I have no science to back it up but the same way posing and flexing a muscle of over time lends itself to more control and (feels like) etches the muscle.
Does it cause the muscle to grow? I doubt it does unless you are relatively untrained, then anything works. I've heard many prep coaches allude to the fact that as your skill at posing improves it enhances a muscles appearance. Does it work? I can't prove it, but I have bought into it.
Is it wasted effort? Possibly.
That's why I do pushups.

I was doing pushups before I started lifting weights and just didn't stop when I did.
They're certainly not a focus but I enjoy them as a finisher on chest day. There will come a day when I tire of listening to 80's music. That day is not today.

I was doing lots and lots of push ups in 2011, and back then the most I ever did in one set was 60. I think it was with strict form; at least it felt like it. I weighed about 152 then.
Now I just do 25 or 30 as a warm up on chest day. Or if I miss several workouts in a row for whatever reason, I'll do a few sets of 25 or 30 at home just to feel like I'm doing something.

Been doing them since my college (military college) and Army days back in the 60s. Old habits die hard.
Just my thoughts, but consider pushups, planks, situps, pullups and chins as core exercises that are neglected by most guys I know at the gym. Often incorporate these as a integral part of my warmup for coordination and flexibility, in addition to stretching.Inactivity Kills!!!

Like some others on here..I don't know, because I don't do "regular" push ups. At the end of my chest/tri workout, I do incline pushups to exhaustion. But sometimes, I don't feel anything from them..after like 50.
I've been wanting to take a day off from my regular chest workout and try one handed "Rocky" pushups and/or upside down (standing on your head against a wall) pushups...used to do both in my 20s...but someone I can't bring myself to do them as it just seem..well..silly. That's me.
I"m impressed by people that can do lots of pullups/chinups. I can do 2 sets of 8, fairly strictly, but there are some guys that I've seen that this would be just a warm up. Most of them are rather on the skinny side...but no matter, still F ing impressive.

About 6 months ago I hit 52 in 60 seconds.... Weight around 325. Cause somebody asked me to. Usually don't do them.
What I have learned is that a minute is about all that most have before lactic acid kills further reps - whether it be push ups, bench, etc.
Example: I did 225 incline for 35 at the end of speed bench. I DIED @ about 50 seconds. I could hold it up, but just could not push it.. lol

Have no idea. I would imagine a whole bunch. Can bench bodyweight over 30 reps and just did 225x25 a few days ago. Considering a pushup is only about 40% bw it is like saying how many times can you bench 75 lbs. Not really sure at that point it is a test of strength. ..but rather endurance. Might be fun to try but not sure it is something I would do. Kinda lime how many squat thrusts can you do. Might make a good bar bet though.
