That frikken Canadian
O/T Some gym staff are just amazing at times.
Well, here I am sitting in a hotel room. I am away on training for my agency (I work government) and I am in a small town called Moncton, New Brunswick. Population roughly 150k.
Now that the background is done, let me tell you that the one of two gyms here is great. They have a YMCA and what is called Nubody's. The YMCA I need to take a bus to and it's roughly 15 minutes to get to. So I called to find out for day pass. 10$. Wow, ok no problem.
Then there is Nubody's. It's a 5 minute walk from here. 2 minutes from my work place here in Moncton. I went there last night since I have been here since tuesday and I wanted to go to the gym. You really miss it when you have been going for 4 days a week.
So, I walk in, there is this gorgeous blond at the desk and I inquire about getting a day pass since I am from out of town. Well, she says it's normally 10$ but since I am not from here, I can use it for free...!!!. Wow, AND she gives me a towel for free.
So, I do an intense 1.5 hour workout and I am so happy that they have the same equipment that my own gym has. Once I am done I take a shower and head out. The blond is still at the desk and she calls me over. She asked if I was here only for today. I told her no, I am still here for a week. Well, does she not turn around and give me a free week pass!!! I am dumbfounded. I ask her if she is sure. She says yes. She hates seeing folks who are away from their own gym not have access to one.
By god some folks are just amazing. So with my week pass now I intend to not miss out on any more workouts..

Going for strong and lean
I had the same experience in St. Johns, Newfoundland. My wife and I dropped into the Nubody's and we each got a free one week pass. Its a great east coast chain.

When in doubt, mumble
Did she also offer to come to your hotel?
lol
Sounds too good to be true
Yorkshireman I: Right! I had to get up in the morning, at ten o'clock at night, half an hour before I went to bed, eat a lump of cold poison, work twenty-nine hours a day down mill and pay mill-owner for permission to come to work, and when we got home, our dad would kill us and dance about on our graves, singing Hallelujah!

The show goes on
refreshing
I admit when I saw the topic title I figured it was going to be another negative rant about how poorly trained or just bad the staff is at some gyms.
But was treated to a positive experience of how good and considerate some of them can be.
Thanks for the pleasant suprise.
Many people just like to rant but you took the time to recognize good customer service.
If I am in that area I know where I will be going to work out :-)

I had the same positive experience this past summer when I spent a week in the St. Louis area for business. The Bally's in Maryland Heights hooked me up with a free pass.
I made sure to send an e-mail to the club thanking them for the awesome jesture.

Yep, I was thinking the same thing. When I go back tomorrow I will get her name. Something like that puts a positive image on the company. Yes, they don't get money. But many of my co-workers here are going to hear about it on monday, and of course they will hear the good experience I got and might end up going

Just hope she is a manager and/or that is their standard policy, or she could get busted if you thank them for the free pass.

I travel all the time, which is the only reason I have a YMCA membership as well as my local Gold's membership. (The local Gold's is better than the local 'Y', but Golds is pathetic if you do excessive travel. The 'Y', on the other hand, is a nationwide membership.)
Here's a hint I've learned in my travels: Check with your hotel. Many of them have deals with local gyms.
E.g. there's a Residence Inn in the St.Louis area that gives you a free pass for the local 24-hour fitness every time you ask for one.
Sometimes, you have to call a few hotels to find out if they have that kind of deal going with a local gym ... they don't usually mention it on their web sites.
Regards,
Duncan

find the manager and tell him/her about your experience first hand. then if you can, support the facility financially by buying a t-shirt, a protein drink or something to show your support.
and by all means man, ask her to dinner!

Well, found out she is not a manager. When I asked her if she was allowed to give me the week pass, she kind of smiled and said. Not really, but she likes helping out big strapping men...
LOL, almost felt like telling her "Hmm. did you actually look at me? or are you waiting for your contact lens prescription to come in :P"

It must be snowing in hell and cats are playing with dogs, cause someone got real customer service...amazing, you should write that chicks manager and give her some props! The fact that she was "Eye Candy" was just Bonus Material, did you do the quick ring check thing.
