Question Rib/Abdominal Pain

Has anyone ever had ribs that have turned or become rotated from exercising? Somehow my 7th and 8th rib have rotated slightly and it's causing major pain in my upper abdominal and muscle tightness all the way through my back.

Anyone know any ways to speed up the recovery process? Rest, ice, Ibuprofen, and physical therapy are my options right now...can I still work out a little or is it better to play it safe and not aggravate it?

Any updates on your condition and what worked to help heal? I just rotated one while doing dips tonight.

Rehab

My ribs are FINALLY better. Unfortunately, ribs are something you just have to wait out, not a whole lot you can do for them...

The first step would be to get the swelling to go down (I'm sure when it rotated it pulled a few muscles) so I relied a lot on ice and ibprofen. Went to physical therapy, but honestly the thing that helped the most was massage. It's going to hurt, but it defiantely helps. I still have scar tissue that I need massaged out so I still go about once a week.

I'm getting better

Glad to hear things are getting better for you. I hadn't thought about having it massaged, I would think that it would just make it hurt and not do a whole lot to help, so that is really interesting. I hope your healing continues.

Mine rotated back into place while I was at work the other day. I was extremely surprised nobody noticed the "I think my chest is going to explode" face I was making because it shot pain all the way through my chest for about a minute and I couldn't force myself to take a breath until the pain died down, which was really weird. Not a single guy made fun of me Since that moment it has felt really sore but not really painful, and as of now it is barely sore. Sometimes when I wake up it will be sore again from the position I was in while sleeping. Ice and ibuprofin definitely helped while it was out of place, which brought the swelling down to allow it to rotate back into place on her own. My sister(she's has a doctorate in physical therapy) was planning to try to reset it manually this weekend. She said it is typically better if it resets itself so you don't risk damaging any supporting muscle tissue or risk breaking it causing bigger problems.
