Martial Artists, Rep Your Art, Lemme See Yo Bawdy! (hetero)
I recently took up a little martial arts, just this cheesy beginner class....but man, I think I like it better than dancing! It's great for letting out aggression, and I'm actually very good!
If you love it, rep your martial art, and let me see a body pic. I'm not sure what the physical benefits are.

I've trained in tae-kwon-do since I was around 7 or so, and stopped around age 16. I've also trained in boxing and jiu-jitsu. Now I'm training mma.

Taekwondo is that Chinese? And Jiu Jitsu. I suppose I should look this up at Wikipedia.
Do you have lean muscle mass, or does it feel more bulky?

taekwondo is korean.
chinese practice kung fu/wushu.
jiujitsu is japanese, same as judo, aikido, and karate (well karate's really a mix of okinawan hand to hand fighting and kung fu, many schools in mainland japan and okinawan with small differences).
I practice karate and I'm pretty bulky (my sensei is too) but we do more weights than most other people who do karate I'd say.
the training is more oriented around conditioning/plyos/kata and sparring, teaching you how to fight correctly, etc, the conditioning would be good for dropping bodyfat (though that isn't the goal really) if you keep diet in check I suppose.

I did kempo for around 5 years when I was younger. Picked up Brazilian Jiu Jitsu a couple of years ago, and recently started doing a little Muay Thai.

Whenever I move, I lose weight.....I'm not all that worried about it, I'm not round, I'm broad and stocky with really big muscles (wrapped in fat I'm sure) I'm like a heavyweight, literally LOL. I have this much weight on me because I'm not moving enough compared to what I eat.
I did some half assed play fighting with a male friend....I used to teach ballet years ago so I just did alot of kicks and spins with a friend before I even tried a class.....I loved the rush, I couldn't stop.
I didn't know taekwondo was Korean....interesting how popular it is over here.

I've been Kickboxing for over 1.5 years now. I'm lean and yeah, it does burn fat faster than running on the treadmill.

taekwondo knows how to market well, and many of their schools are uber commercial so they cater to lots of people and many schools give out easy belts so people will come longer (not a knock against taekwondo the martial art but rather against how commercial many of the US schools have gotten, just sayin' from what I've observed)

x2. I have seen some schools that have 4-5 stripes for each belt and each one requires a test and fee. I have been informed to be very cautious with the ones where the instructor/owners sole job is the class because they have to rely on the fees from students to live and pay the bill for a dedicated school.

I achieved Second Dan Black Belt in Taekwondo after 6 years of training. It's pretty popular over here in the states, allot of the studios are deluted and they hand out belts to anyone that shows up and pays tuition. If I had to do it all over again I'd get into one of the jillion MMA gyms that seem to be popping up recently. I think it's a much more useable form of self defense...Taekwondo is great for sport and physical conditioning, but it's not very practical in real life situations.

Congratulations on getting started. No matter what style you chose to study I'm sure you'll get alot out of it.

I've been doing brazilian jiu-jitsu for a while now, along with koei-kan karate-do, the combination makes for a well rounded fighter. I don't think martial arts get more fun that jiu jitsu though

I do submission wrestling and have trained Krav Maga (still train general self defense, just not in organized classes).
My body is in my avatar, but I don't see what that has to do with martial arts. I built my current physique lifting weights.
