Is owning a katana sword illegal?
I had brought a katana sword and when my father saw it he was like get that outta here it's illegal. I own some sais too. Is owning a sword illegal?

Yes they are highly illegal, if you get caught with one you get over 40 years in prison because since you own a sword that means you are bad and you plan on killing someone. My friends brothers cousins uncles daughter told me this.

Bull****... So owning a woodaxe is illegal because it can "lop a head off"? Pft every hardware store sells them along with major stores such as Lowes, Home Depot, and Walmart.

If you want a "sharpened" sword you have to buy a "Battle Ready" sword.... The can be used in actual combat, much stronger and sharper then the replicas most places sell.

The only martial art weapon that is illegal in some states is the nunchaku - like California under penal code 12020. And its a strict liability misdemeanor (meaning intent is irrelevant, possession alone is enough to nail you).
But, I don't think any legislation is out there stating that owning a sword is illegal. I could be wrong though.

Nunchucks are illegal in SOME STATES not all. I know that for a fact. I'm not talkin about some BS foam nunchucks lol.

Or your lawyer argues that your 4th Amendment right to be free from unreasonable search and seizures by those under color of authority was violated since the Cop didn't have probable cause, and under the fruit of the poisonous tree doctrine all evidence gets thrown out b/c of the violation. The State has no case, charges are dropped and you go home with a crapload of legal bills to pay.

Well, you probably have a fake katana, I don't know how much you paid for it or whether or not it is machine made with a fake hamon and half tang etc., but it all depends upon your local laws. I live in PA and I have 5 hand made swords, in addition to lesser practice swords.

a real katana or samurai sword is illegal to own or make. this is because after the war with japan part of the peace treaty was that they can not manufacturer anymore swords or have a military. so if you own a real one (which is worth 5k+ these days) it's illegal.
more than likely, you have those replica ones that has a sticker "made in china" and will break easily if you tried to use it.
