Well im in EMT school right now, so let me see if I can help you out, a HERNIA is defined as a "protrusion or thrusting forward of a portion of the intestine through an opening or weakness in the abdominal wall". Hernias are not life threatening and can be easily treated. They are caused by increased pressure in the abdominal cavity during heavy lifting or straining, causing the "PERITONEUM" (abdominal wall lining) to be pushed into the weakness or opening.
-Signs and Symptons of Hernias are such of the following, Sudden onset of abdominal pain (usually after heavy lifting) Fever, Rapid PUse, and others similar to intestinal obstruction. HOPE THAT HELPS U OUT!*Two in the Chest, One in the Head*
