I am wondering... I bought some at Dick's for $.49/lb. Is that a good price? Where else can I find them relatively inexpensively? I keep checking Craigslist and Ebay, to no avail.
Thanks!

How heavy do they go at Walmart? I've looked at Targeet and all they have is the light ones for aerobic type stuff. Plus some adjustable ones but they don't go very heavy.
I occassionally see some on craigslist. Otherwise I've picked up some at Play it Again Sports. Not sure how much per pound, but not super cheap.

Play it again sports charges $.63 per pound for their hex dumbells regardless if they are new or used. So $.49 per pound is not bad. I picked up dumbell 5-100's plus nice heavy duty racks for $500.00 on craigslist. The guy even delivered them for me. I would be patient and keep checking Craigslist. In a few more months people will start offloading their new years resolution equipment.

I actually just picked up a few plates at Dick's. 49 cents/pound isn't too shabby. There's a Sport's Authority right down the street from me, too, and I picked these up for $10 each. They were supposed to go for $15 each, but there wasn't a box for 'em so the guy gave 'em to me cheaper. They can fit 40 pounds of 5 pound plates on them.

I've mentioned this on another thread... the best is when you can combine the $.49 a pound rate at dick's with a coupon. I once had some $10 off $25 coupons and I sat there for like ten minutes trying to work out combinations that would get me the most for my money. I used two coupons on 2 <$30 purchases and that worked out really nice. Got me my 15-25 dumbbells. Now I'm looking for 30 to 50, and I have no more coupons so I'm using craigslist mainly

Have you looked into adjustable dumbbells like powerblocks? A 5-90 lb set will cost you $588...that's a mere $0.34 cents a pound, plus the extra benefit of a HUGE space saver.
Buying a full set of dumbbells 5-90 lbs from Dick's at $0.49 cents a pound will cost you $837 and a ton of space to house all that weight.
I own a set of powerblocks and they are the best fitness investment I've ever made!!
