the sticky Keto FAQ says:
Glutamine is considered a conditionally essential amino acid, but has become a relatively "hot" supplement of late for a number of good reasons. It aids in glycogen storage, promotes Growth Hormone release and has substantial immune system benefits. However, glutamine supplementation is not recommended on a CKD: it interferes with entering ketosis. Non ketogenic low carbers may want to consider l-glutamine supplementation, although it's a bit expensive. If you use it, glutamine should be taken in multiple doses, with each dose not exceeding 2 grams. More than 2 grams at any one time may be wasted as amounts ingested above this are largely absorbed by the liver.
But I've also read elsewhere on the thread people making recommendations for taking Glutamine on a keto diet in order to best maintain muscle.
Please clarify these discrepancies.. should I or shouldn't I take it while on keto diet? Thanks for your help.

The brain requires glucose to meet 20% of its' fuel needs, the other 80% can be met with fat. Glutamine can be used as fuel for the brain in the absence of glucose like when we're on a low carb diet. I take 2-5 g a day and it doesn't give me any problems. Maybe they mean if you take a lot it could provide too much fuel which might delay the fat burning process.

Who knows how much is too much, I'm sure it depends on the person. If 20g doesn't affect your ketosis, then I'm with ya - if it ain't broke don't fix it.
