how many grams of protein per pound of body weight to increase lean mass?

I have a good diet supplemented by a nightly postworkout whey protein shake and have made good results, but wonder whether at times I overdose on protein (and we know extra, unused protein turns into fat).

What should be a good ratio (grams of protein ~ lb of body weight)?
