Anyone compete more than twice a year?
Hey guys, I have a competition coming up in July, but there is also one in November that I am interested in as well. Has anyone competed in the same kind of 4-5 month time frame before? And if so, did it have much effect on your shape?

I did a show last June and then I did the USA's in July. I ate like crazy, then 2 weeks out cleaned it up and came in harder and fuller than the June show.

Perfect! Just what I needed to know. There is a show in June as well, maybe that might be a better idea than the November show. Hmmmm...

I competed 6 times last year. The first 5 shows occured within 2 1/2 mos, starting with Jr USA's and ending with Nationals. I prefer to do as many shows as I can...once you are dieted down you might as well take advantage of it. For me, since I have a super fast metabolism, the problem is staying full enough after a while. And you also have to keep your body stimulated so it keeps responding. I have a trainer who changed my diet like crazy and my cardio and even lifting changed as I went along, just to be sure my body kept peaking.
This is not easy to do but certainly possible. I placed consistenly well in all my shows because I have a trainer who monitors me closely. If I were going to do shows 4 mos apart like you, I would go into a "mini off season" in between...where I ate and rested up but didn't get too big or out of shape. If you dieted all the way through, you'd probably burn out and wind up looking worse. But if you take a break (and still train and eat clean) before you diet down again, you should be ahead of the game and looking even better for the second show!
This year I will do Jr Nats, Nationals, and USA's and all are within a 6 week period. I am excited! I love doing those big shows and that is a perfect time frame for me...not too long where my body gets too lean and tired but long enough to properly dryout and peak each time

Your livin my dream girl! I'm excited for you! Thank you so much for the advice, I want to make this a BIG part of my life and I just want to dive in head first (with the right knowledge of course). You are lucky to have a trainer helping you with your progress...where I'm at, I have the Personal Training world monopolized, and I would love having the help or mentorship from someone who knows what competition is all about, or knows ANYTHING about it. But nonetheless, I plan on going into this year and each show I enter like a pro!

I do and sometimes in different or more than one class. One year I did 13 shows in 9 months entering multiple categories. As long as you plan it out right you cannot lose!

Italian Angel, I am impressed! It's amazing that you know your body so well and the way it reacts! So how long have you been competing? I have found that preparing for competition is much more complicated than getting to the gym and putting on muscle. It is much more difficult when you have to even your body's proportions out. It has been a fun journey though! You look amazing, keep it up!

This will be my first year to compete, but I plan on doing as many contests as my body will allow. Right now I'm shooting to do 6 this year........less if it's too much and more if my body reacts well. I say go for as many as you can if you think you're ready!!!

thoughts on amount of shows...
I wanted to post my thoughts on this... in 2005 after I competed at the TOC, I won my class and I was so excited, so I planned a schedule that was very heavy for 06, I looked at the list and said, ok, I'll do this show, and this show, and this show. I told my coach about this, and he said, ok, this seems like a heavy schedule and I was so amped up from my contest I wanted to do them all. So I planned them all sent in the entry forms and everything, after the first show, I was a bit burnt out and wanted a break, but had already planned the next show. So I went ahead and did it anyway. Then after the next show I was fired up and wanted to do another so I entered a show 7 weeks later, when I had not planned on it at all. What is my point? Plan your shows sparingly. You can always add more later, but once you commit to a whole bunch of shows, it is more difficult to back out. This year I have two shows planned ONLY, after that second show, I go from there and decide what I want to do. I have found it works much better to be on the conservative side. If your physique is ready the judges will see that, you don't need to do every show in the year to get noticed. Just my two bucks.

Thank you for the insight Nancypro! When it comes to your first attempts, it can be a bit overwhelming. I think its a great idea to not commit to quickly, I will definately be taking your advice on that! Best of luck in 07!
Best of luck this upcoming season V! Its awesome to see someone so close to home competing as well. Sometimes it seems that I am the only one near me striving for the same goals. So what shows are you competing in? Anything local?

competing more than once per year.
EAsily, in 99 I did 13 shows in 9 mth, multiple classes at each show, entering fitness/figure and model or obstacle, if your on top of things and diligent you can do it and with HMB in my diet I even gained 4 lbs of muscle by year end rather than lose any!

ACtually it seems to have every amino listed but no HMB. HMB info is here, it is not a combo of stuff, its its own nutrient.

Hey Tabbs! How far was your shows spaced out? And did you stay really strict on your diet or did you take a couple weeks post show to kinda "fill out" before hitting it hard for the next?
