    ZMA worth it?

I hear that this supplement increases testosterone levels and so increases muscle and decreases fat(to a certain amount, not a miracle supplement). So is this supp highly recommended?

Actually zinc is the closest to a natural miracle supplement you'll find. Provided you take enough. Load for a week with 90 mg , then drop to 45 mg. (continuing at 90 is actually fine, but until they update the RDA's and toxicity lines to reflect modern science, I'm technically not allowed to recommend that) You'll be amazed at the results if you haven't been taking any extra zinc up to this point. Its cheap and its effective. It seems to have some minor effects on testosterone, but that's not really where the effect comes from. Its mostly the influence of extra zinc in muscle tissue that locally modulates IGF actions. It so strong in fact that several zinc formulations are often applied, orally or topically, for wound healing. -The extra magnesium helps the uptake of zinc into cells, but you'll get the effect with a cheaper zinc supplement as well.

    Crazy Dreams

Just added my 2 cents on this stuff. I love taking it. If it actually helps out or not, I couldn't really tell you, but I sleep better than ever. I have extremely vivid and realistic dreams, which is awesome when they're good, but I woke up 2 nights ago hating my girlfriend because I was positive she was cheating on me(We were watching the show cheaters when I dozed off). Took me a couple minutes to realize it was just a dream and she was lying next to me. I wake up more refreshed then I do on nights I don't take it, so I'm going to keep rolling with it. I assume the dreams are better and I wake up feeling better because it helps me get into the REM stage and stay there longer, but I don't really know.

Yea I've had some pretty amazing dreams lately from my wal-mart ZMA. Last night I had a dream that I adopted a son and then it wasn't a human, it was a dog. And I was sad because I am going back to college in a week and I wouldn't be able to take him. Then I was at some huge concert and I went up some steps and my dog was there playing with some people, and he tried to jump off the edge (it was like a 100 foot drop) and I caught him. Thats all I remember. It was weird...

Should it be safe to assume that ZMA´s colateral effect are vivid and intense dreams? From alot of BB users, hey mention primary this kind of behaviour. I have insomnia so it kinda worries me.

Should one ingest more copper and/or iron as well? I take in quite a bit of zinc, probably around 50mg a day or so, and I have been wondering about this.

I just started taking ZMA about two weeks ago, and I love it. Before taking it my levels of test were a little low I thought. After taking it I am having great sleep, amazing dreams, a little more acne (only on my chest-also lets me know its actually working), and more libido down below. Have fun with it!

Damn it sounds like I'm really missing out because I can't say that I've noticed any difference in my dreams while taking ZMA but I do notice that while using it my quality of sleep has improved.

    Here two studies:

Exercise & Sport Nutrition Lab, Baylor University, Waco, TX.

ABSTRACT : This study examined whether supplementing the diet with a commercial supplement containing zinc magnesium aspartate (ZMA) during training affects zinc and magnesium status, anabolic and catabolic hormone profiles, and/or training adaptations. Forty-two resistance trained males (27 +/- 9 yrs; 178 +/- 8 cm, 85 +/- 15 kg, 18.6 +/- 6% body fat) were matched according to fat free mass and randomly assigned to ingest in a double blind manner either a dextrose placebo (P) or ZMA 30-60 minutes prior to going to sleep during 8-weeks of standardized resistance-training. Subjects completed testing sessions at 0, 4, and 8 weeks that included body composition assessment as determined by dual energy X-ray absorptiometry, 1-RM and muscular endurance tests on the bench and leg press, a Wingate anaerobic power test, and blood analysis to assess anabolic/catabolic status as well as markers of health. Data were analyzed using repeated measures ANOVA. Results indicated that ZMA supplementation non-significantly increased serum zinc levels by 11 - 17% (p = 0.12). However, no significant differences were observed between groups in anabolic or catabolic hormone status, body composition, 1-RM bench press and leg press, upper or lower body muscular endurance, or cycling anaerobic capacity. Results indicate that ZMA supplementation during training does not appear to enhance training adaptations in resistance trained populations.
OBJECTIVES: To investigate whether the administration of the zinc-containing nutritional supplement ZMA causes an increase of serum testosterone levels, which is an often claimed effect in advertising for such products; to monitor the urinary excretion of testosterone and selected steroid hormone metabolites to detect potential changes in the excretion patterns of ZMA users. SUBJECTS: Fourteen healthy, regularly exercising men aged 22-33 years with a baseline zinc intake between 11.9 and 23.2 mg day(-1) prior to the study. RESULTS: Supplementation of ZMA significantly increased serum zinc (P=0.031) and urinary zinc excretion (P=0.035). Urinary pH (P=0.011) and urine flow (P=0.045) were also elevated in the subjects using ZMA. No significant changes in serum total and serum free testosterone were observed in response to ZMA use. Also, the urinary excretion pattern of testosterone metabolites was not significantly altered in ZMA users. CONCLUSIONS: The present data suggest that the use of ZMA has no significant effects regarding serum testosterone levels and the metabolism of testosterone in subjects who consume a zinc-sufficient diet.

Well what's another good ZMA brand choice? I like NOW as a company, and their price is very reasonable, however when I check the ingrediants profile. It has:

    750% Vitamin B6
    110% Magnesium
    110% Zinc

Looking at a few others to compare to, they all have the same (ON, Higher Power, Allmax) with:

    525% Vitamin B6
    113% Magnesium
    200% Zinc

So does anyone know if the effects of NOW ZMA is as good as these others? Or any opinions on that, I'm interested in trying out this product.

Do you have any evidence for this natural miracle supplement load and maintance ?
