    Working at a Gym

I want to be a trainer at my local YMCA or possibly another Gym. Were do i take the course i need to be certified..... or do i need a university degree? I don't nessicarily want this as my career, but i want to earn some money and work at a gym. If not, is there any other job opportunities at a gym that a 17 year old kid could apply for?

Most gyms hire at 18 for trainers... but stop by the gyms around you and ask what certifications they take, because it varies from gym to gym.

Most certification from legit organizations cost around 300-500. You only need a diploma for basic PT cert.

Check out ACSM, ACE, NASM, NSCA, or NFTP.

    Edit. Nvm. You're 16...

I took the AAAI cert which was only like $100 (they were running a special or something, idk) and now train at LA Fitness, but yeah they vary in price drastically. Back in the day they used to take cert's that only costed like $50 to get... no more though

Don't you need to be at least 18 to become a certified personel trainer?

No gym is going to hire a 17 year old for personal training unless there are alot of things that really impress them. And once you get the job do you honestly think anyone is going to hire you to train them unless once again there is something you can do to impress people enough to say "Hey this kid knows his **** and busts his ass, I bet he would be a good trainer to hire."
