Gloves (BOXING)
Just about to purchase a heavy bag (30-50KG) so any tips for what to buy when looking for training gloves? I wont be sparring yet so its all just for practice on the bag.

purchase heavier gloves (like 16oz) so you get better cardio and a better workout. I think that the heavier the better because as I said you get a better workout and are better trained.

Yeah but what brand/specific gloves etc? =] Thinking of ordering online, they really dont have much of a selection here.

I have everlast and like them a lot but I don't have experience with any other gloves so I'm not quite sure what's the best.

what kind of gloves are best for bags? sparring gloves? bag mitts? I've always seen different opinions :P I've already got wraps though

Everlast
If you can afford it spring for the real leather. When not in use hang them where the sweat can run out. Otherwise they stink like yo mama's army boots.

Yeah I'll be going for real leather I like the feel of the real sparring gloves though compared to mitts, seems more secure and more cushoning for the punch.

Ringside, Ringside, Ringside!!! I have both Ringside equipment and everlast. By far Ringside is a better product. Gloves that tie are way better than the velcroe. Dont get me wrong the velcroe everlast are ok (I have two pairs in 14 oz and 16oz) but my 12oz and 18 oz Ringside are my favorite. Dont forget a set of hand wraps, i usualy used everlast thier because they were cheaper. Also get the heaviest bag you can afford. I used to box in my late teens and early twenties. I went to a ghetto gym and they had four bags two that were like 50-80 lbs and two that were I belive somewhere in the 200 lb range. I used the lighter for a week or so then moved up to the heavier ones and never went back (probably explains my bad wrists but it might be from my bike) Also an uper cut bag and speed bag are good too.

i just picked up some Combat Sports bag gloves, as they were recommended to me by a pro MMA guy.
i have an old pair of Everlasts and they are okay, but they are hook & loop, which i do not like. hook & loop are great for sparring, but just a pain in the ass for bag work.
so, definitely pick up a wrap around velcro enclosure. also, depending on your preference you should go with 12oz or 16oz gloves. 16oz are ideal, but for someone like me, who just hits the bag for fun and for a workout...no intention of fighting or sparring, 16oz just sucks. sucks as in tiring and no fun...not, sucks as in not good.

I was advised before to get 16oz for bag work, apparently it helps build up the strength in punching etc - plus I'll be doing this as a cardio exercise so my goal will be to get tired lol :P

Do gloves come any heavier than 18 oz? I can't imagine tiring out with such light gloves.
I've been punching with 50lb dumbells for cardio + strength training, sort of like Rocky in his newest movie ("hurtin bombs"). I tire out after a few minutes though...

I use a pair of MMA gloves with minimal padding for my heavy, and speed bag training.

These gloves are the best. http://www.rivalboxing.com/e/gloves-e.html
They reinvented the boxing glove. Very good stuff and made buy a boxer. Also i order from www.titleboxing.com they are expensive with the shipment but good site if you in the states.

Not the best quality, stitching is crap. If they aren't free or you aren't getting a great deal on them, I'd spend somewhere elsewhere.
