(my reply from BJ thread, thought it'd make a good post)
What's wrong with prostitution? You know, I'll never understand why it's illegal... doing that just makes everything more dangerous.
If they made it legal and had places for people to go and what not, it'd be a lot safer (both dieasewise and violencewise) and people would be happier.
Seriously, who does it hurt to have it be legal? Both ends of the deal are happy and everyone is fine. What exactly makes it so horrible that it needs to be illegal? I guess it's some moral issue, which is stupid.
Instead people have to go around the law and that's when everything turns out bad--no one is tested, people get hurt, hookers get killed, etc.
I'm not trying to say everyone should become or go out and get a prostitute, but I just don't understand why it's illegal. It's ridiculous.
What do you guys think?

Oh, and btw, I remember seeing something on HBO about some place where prostitution is legal. I don't remember the name of the palce or where it is, but if they can do it, why not everywhere? It seems everything is fine with them... they could have stuff like that all over, what would be wrong with that?
I think that'd be better than people going around the law to pick up blow jobs on street corners... seriously.

I'm not talking sketchy ass prostitution on street corners, I'm talking like organized stuff. There would be no pregnancies... you don't see every pornstar getting pregnant left and right, do you? Yet I bet you watch and realize there is a hell of a lot of sex going on.
They could make the girls go on birth control and have all guys where condoms. Also, the girls would all need to tested for everything first and get regularly tested and what not. It could be managed...
Anything is better than the situation now, going around the law for prostitution is a hell of a lot more dangerous than if it were legal and there weere guidelines and what not.

Like I said, it wouldn't be the same type of prostitution there is now.
I'm thinking something similar to what they had on the HBO special. They would have places to go where you could buy girls or guys and do this or that for X amount of money. They'd have rules and regulations.
If it was legal, there would be no more picking up girls and bringing them home or doing them in a car. You are taking illegal prostitution and thinking it'll be the same once it's legal. Why would anyone wanna do that? They only reason it's done that way is because it's illegal...
So, I don't mean legalize what they do now, I mean make it legal so they can do it differently--meaning safer.
The way it is now people still have lots of sex, get pregnant, get diseases, get hurt or killed. It's dangerous and stupid, because it's illegal.
You make it legal and things change, IMO, for the better.

What about spreading of std's?
Increased violence...more competition would cause more violence between the prostitutes and their pimps.
Lower morals...If a state of country approves prostitution, then it would bring negitive criticism which could have a series of consequences.▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ஜ۩۞۩ஜ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

ROFLMAO I can't believe everyone here, let me set the record straight.
#1 Prostitution does not equal pregnancy, the ladies are on the pill and all sexual acts are done with condoms.
#2 Prostitution is illegal in most states, because of bible belt states that feel that it is unethical and immoral. These voters are a very strong body of people and politicians that would even try to lift the ban, generally don't get elected again.
#3 Marijuana is banned for the same reason as prostitution. Also if the ban was lifted there would be nothing from stopping your government from taxing it much the same way as they do cigarettes. There would be no dealers because marijuana would be able to be accessed safely by any adult.
#4 More violence between pimps and prostitutes? Wtf, with legalised prostitution THERE ARE NO PIMPS! Instead you have brothels and private escorts who are their own 'pimp's if you will.

What are you talking about?!
Again, like the other guy, you are slapping legalization onto what is done when it's illegal.
Part of the legalization would mean: no more pimps/hoes, no more doing **** on sketchy street corners, getting tested and being protected, and more. Likely you'd do it in a particular established meant to do this, managed by lots of people, no different than a store or whatever... just that sex would be sold.
You have to realize that things wouldn't be the same if prostitution was legalized. I agree that what is going on now is bad, come on!
Do you really believe that with legalization would come no changes? They'd force changes, it wouldn't be the same thing anymore.

Like Coal Man said STDs and morals. Imagine a neighborhood with a park with little kids playing on the swingset. Now imagine that same neighborhood with a XXX place down the street. Would you want your kids growing up next to that? Prostitution is for scum, it's bad enough that it's done in dark alleys and stuff, lets not put up a glitzy sign advertising it.

Exactly!
People think that legalizing something will just be slapping on legalization to the same old routines? Hell no!
Dealers would be eliminated with marijuana legalization, and you'd go to the store to buy it and it'd be inspected and what not as well.
Same with prostitution, to think that it'd still be people walking around street corners waiting for customers is retarded, tha'ts only done because it's illegal. The moment it's legal, not only would the law make them leave that style of prostitution, but people would want to... the way it is now is really dangerous, for everyone.

Alright, you are 100% wrong with the STD thing, how can anyone get STD's if everyone takes all the tests (and customers proven clean as well) and condoms are worn? They would make it very safe in that sense.
HOWEVER, the one thing that I see what you're saying about is the morals thing... sure, maybe it's not the best thing to advertise around. But, hell, porn is all over the internet, TV has some REALLY sexual stuff kids are exposed to, strip clubs are advertised, I mean, is it really that much of a step?

Great post, there's no logical reason to ban someone from selling there own body, and even further it would be harder for high schoolers to get Ganga, I know growing up it was easier getting illegal drugs then beer. Why is that you ask? Because dealers don't care if your 18. Also going to Amsterdam, I can tell you that there legal prostitution is a great idea, they have the lowest cases of Rape/Sexual assault in the WORLD. Not to mention prostitutes are screened to make sure they are clean, and condoms are required. Not to mention they are protected by the Police and it is taxed. Do you know we spend millions of dollars putting prostitutes in jail, and pot smokers. Wow like i want to waste tax dollars on housing them, seems like a stupid move. There are so many backwards religious based laws.
Pretty much there's no argument to why Prostitution should be illegal and why Ganga should be illegal that doesn't use the Holy book.
End of discussion

Who says it's the wrong direction? What's so bad about it? It's just our bodies and plus I doubt it'll go in the other direction ever again.
As the above guy said, look at Amsterdam, they are doing great with that stuff legalized.
It really is a relgious/moral thing that really has no place in our laws, but whatever, it does and we gotta deal. So, really, it's only the "wrong" direction in that sense... but our laws really shouldn't be based on something religious.
