No, you cannot negotiate with the big chains. I managed one for several years. Contrary to populare belief, it is NOT LIKE BUYING A CAR! We didn't waive the fee for the last 1,000 people to join, so what makes your case any different? If you want the best price, go to a small gym with older equipment and uncertified personal trainers. If you want the best value, go to a large chain. Best advice: join on the last Monday or Tuesday of the month. All promotions that are being run typically expire on the last day of any given month.
