Gymnast trying to add mass
Greetings all,
My first posting here, appologies if this is too much to read, but the guidlines said to be thorough. :-)
I've been in gymnastics for about 5 years now, with 6-7 years of martial arts before that. I damaged my leg muscles in MA,and they never totally recovered. My lower body flexibility is bad, so that makes some things a LOT harder. My favorite event is rings, and I can hold a cross for 5-8 seconds.
I'm in decent shape, but I'm trying to make some changes to my body.
My goals:
Go from 136lbs to 170+ (yes, I know this will take time.)
Keep the same kind of Strength to weight ratio I have now
Regain Flexibility (Upper Body is okay, it's the splits I now lack.)
Currently,my lifting routine is this:
Monday: Chest [Flat bench (2 warmup sets, then 3 sets 6-8reps) Incline dumbell press (3 sets 6-8reps) Machine bench (4 sets 8-10reps) weighted dips (3 sets 6-8 reps)]
Tuesday: Back [Chinups (2 warmup sets, then 3 sets (weighted) 6-8reps) Narrow Cable row (3 sets 6-8reps) Lat pulldown widegrip (4 sets 8-10reps) dumbell rows (3 sets 6-8 reps)]
Wed: Rest
Thursday:Legs [squat (2 warmup sets, then 3 sets 6-8reps) Leg extensions (3 sets 6-8reps) leg press (4 sets 8-10reps) Calf raises (3 sets 6-8 reps)]
Friday:Shoulders / arms [Smith machine press (2 warmup sets, then 3 sets 6-8reps) Arnold presses (3 sets 6-8reps) lateral raises (4 sets 8-10reps) rear delt raises (3 sets 6-8 reps)] [2 sets 21s bicepts , 2 sets tricept pullpush supperset, preacher curl/ rope pressdown superset (3 sets 6-8reps)]
Saturday: Rest
Sunday: Rest
I've always had trouble gaining weight, which is why I've never stuck with a weight training program for longer than 6 months.
Food: standard protien, carb, and fat ratios.
Suppliments: Nutralite Double X multi-vitamin, 1.5g glutamine and 1 gram arginine preworkout, Nitrotech durring workouts, anator p70 post workout.
Currently, I'm 5'6" 136lbs, and 6 percent bodyfat.
I do have dance (tango, jazz ect) on wedsday so I need it as a rest, and I tumble and do other gymnastics durring the week, lifting afterwards. Saturday night is my big ring day.
So after all that :-), I guess my question is:
Am I on the right track?
Thanks all!
