I'm trying to connect to Xbox Live and it's such a pain in the ass. I ran into this same crap last time I had Live and I forgot how gay it was trying to set it up.
Could somebody please tell me where I can find the PPPoE settings on a computer running Windows XP? I really don't want to talk to some guy from India who has about as much of a clue as I do about all this.
I messed with PPPoE with bell south what a nightmare. If you have a modem acting as a bridge and a router then the info would be on your router (log into your router using it's ip address). If you do, your router would be set to PPPoe which would also have your user name and password (which may be the user name and password for your primary email). Your modem would be set up to work as bridged ethernet. You would then hook up your xbox like normal and not worry about anything.
If you don't have a router then you have to log into your modem set it to PPPoe and put in the user name and password(log into your modem using it's ip address). You might have to mess with some setting to make sure it's not bridging and it's doing the DHCP itself.
I don't think you would have a scenario where you would have to do anything funky in your xbox. So really if nothing has changed, you should just be able to plug it in and go wild.
Just booted up my xbox. I guess there is a PPPoE settings section, so I guess if you have no router and a modem acting as a bridge and a service that require PPPoe you would use it. I remember when messing with bellsouth it was full email like firstname.lastname@example.org as username and then the password. It was annoying as hell cause the people on tech support didn't want to tell you the PPPoE info and wanted to send out a tech to type it in for you.
