Is circuit training with weights (only 5lbs) daily OK?
To get a quick intense workout I have been doing cicuit training with 5lb dumbells (Just one week to try it out). Is this okay? I want to lose fat and at least maintain muscle. The routine looks like this:
1-5 min walk in place
50-100 jumping jacks
50-100 knee raises
50-100 trunk twist
15-25 overhead press (5lb dumbells)
15-25 bicep curls (5lb dumbells)
15-25 tricep kickbacks (5lb dumbells)
15-25 bent over rows (5lb dumbells)
15-25 squats (5lb dumbells)
15-25 deadlifts (5lb dumbells)
15-25 leg raises each side
15-25 hamstring curls
50 glute pinches
50 crunches
It takes me about 10 min each circuit, so I repeat it 1 or two times. This gives me a 20-30 minute very sweaty workout, and I feel good for at least 4 hours after (which is why I like it), but will this give me good LONGTERM results?
My plan is to:
*do this first thing in the morning (empty stomach), monday-friday, soy protein (20g protein, 20g carbs), plus 1/2cup each strawberries and blueberries PWO.
*use 10 lbs upper body and 15lbs lower body on saturday (This was my old workout M,W,F).
*Rest on sunday
Should I consider this cardio that I can do every day, or stick with doing it
3X per week? I am a female if that matters (but I don't mind lifting heavy).
Please give me some feedback. I'm willing to change if this is not a good plan.
Will try to post before pics tonight.

Care to elaborate?
In case you missed it, this is a female looking to just get in shape. Not a male looking to win Mr. Olympia. So I ask again: care to elaborate?

yeah, thats fine for you. Make sure calories are in check, and try to lift weights that are 50% max.
Ex: you can curl 20's, curl 10's, not 5.

I honestly think that workout is much better than what I normally see women do in the gym.
Why force yourself to stick with 5 lbs. If 5 lbs seems really easy for a specific exercise increase it to 10 lbs. Once 10 lbs seems easy increase it to 15 lbs.

Hell, I'd probably be breathing heavy half way through that workout.

5lbs are kinda easy for my lower body so I will increase to 10s this week, but I'm a wimp up top so I may need to stick with 5s a bit longer for upper body. Thanks for the input.

Disregard the trolls in this thread.
If you're trying to build muscle, 5 pound weights wont do. Just simple logic, the more weight you push, the more tearing of your muscles, thus they will become bigger.
If you are looking to lose weight, then cardio is the way to go. I don't care what you do to get your heart rate up, as long as it is.
Hope this helped.

Who are the trolls?
I myself never said that 5 pound weights would build muscle. I said that she is just trying to get in shape and 5, 10, 15 pound weights are good to use for cardio. I hope you weren't calling me a troll.

A lot of people seem to be against curves, but I think if all women did the Curves circuit 90% (made up number of course) would see better results than what they are currently doing in the gym. Of course there are much better programs than Curves, but most people would never follow them.
If curves actually had a level system (say 1-5 levels) to increase resistance slowly over time it would be much better.

No this isn't curves, but I came up with this after I tried curves for a day. I loved the idea, but when I tried the program (at curves), I didn't even break a sweat. I was use to leg pressing 220 at the gym so hydraulics did nothing for me. Even though I'm only using five pounders for my own circuit, I feel it and I sweat a lot, so I like it. I love lifting weights and I love sweating so I'm just trying to find a happy medium that will allow me to shrink (hopefully fat) instead of get bigger (I have cut my calories to aide in this... something I did'nt do before).
Thank you guys for the input. I will keep you posted.
