actaully, the only dream tan I've seen look good is the brown/gold
the red never looks even unless you've got a pro putting it on, and you won't
I would opt for the Jan tana, a few coats of pro tan and the jan tana show tan on top and you will be dark and not streaky
dream tan smears too, it's like a waxy paint, never dries, has oil in it
most people cannot get it to look good, so most experienced amateurs avoid it

I just put on about 5 coats of pro tan. Its pretty hard to mess it up. People say you get streaky or whatever but, my gf put it on me and had no prior experience doing it. I didn't even put on any dream tan until the night show. I used the gold brown. I just rubbed it on with my hands really quickly, again it didn't leave any streaks or look bad at all. For the face, it was one or two coats of pro tan and dark powder makeup.
Good Luck

I've never used this combo but my next show does not allow DT at the venue so I may have to use this combo. I have a buddy that skin tone is very close to mine and he uses this.

My two cents:
I've done 24 shows, and have settled on this simple routine. One coat protan Friday night. One coat protan Saturday morning (no shower). DreamTan backstage. Make sure your helper puts it on evenly, pat down any finger marks with your palm, and don't use too much. Everyone always asks how your color is so good!

I'm with this , done it twice (yesterdays contest 2nd comp)and it went even smoother this time , didn't even have to touch it up from the pre judge showto the night show.
Most the tans i saw were rediculous with hot stuff , Pam cooking spray and they swet and you see streaks all over them ,constantly wiping there swet and tans off as they did so, most were not dark enough ,
and the smell was crazy (hot stuff ) burning your eyes just being in the room.
I did 3 coats pro tan 1 coat dream tan before pre judge and was done , while others were spraying pam and all kindds of stuff and they all looked like crap after swetting.
Akers used dream tan also and i think he will agree , everyone else was constantly wiping swet off and having to reapply /touch up constantly, while the few pro tan dream tan guys got to focus on other areas (posing , relaxing , carbing up , pumping up).
August 11th i will be doing it again and theres no doubt i'm sticking with this system.

I'm glad you wrote this. I bought a bottle of Protan and a bottle of Jana Tan just because those were the only two bottles left at my local bodybuilding store.

JMHO but buying it straight from her is the only way your going to know that your getting the fresh stuff. BTW, I love Comp Tan it gives you the most beautiful color, it layers great and you can take a shower between the prelims and finals, put a couple layers of comp tan back on no problem and it looks good once you get showered after the comp too.

I personally won't ever mess with PT again, I am going to use the JT system from the bottom up this year. If its good enough for Jay Cutler its good enough for my white butt!

At the NPC Northern Kentucky this year a guy in the novice middleweights must have used a really cheap water based tanning product. On stage he started sweating profusely, and his paint was running like a river! He had a wide swath of missing color down his chest and abs, looked awful! But he still went on to win his class against some tough competition. Guess the judges were able to look past his bad paint job!
Based on comments here, I'm going with Jan-Tana for my show coat over Pro-tan base. Where is the best place to get "fresh" Jan-Tana product?
Cheers!

You cannot get dark enough for stage lights with a natural tan. Painting is a must. In the past I have used ProTan for a base and DreamTan as a final color layer. I think the protan alone looks too orange, but it is intended to be washed off the morning after application so it stains your skin. Most comp users just leave the full coats on. I bought some Pro-Tan recently and now won't be using it for a comp, so I might try a paint and wash off the next day session...
Next time I intend to invest in the Jan Tana system, although I will use their color for my face, not make up. I presume the Jan Tana makeup is water/sweat proof and matches their body color product. Let us know how it looks on both you and your BF.

My trainer always says "once you think you are dark enough, put on at least one more coat" and he has never steered me wrong, except when he said that PT could get me darker than JanTana Comp tan.
ProTan is the WORST thing you can put on your face because it is an alcohol based product and it will dry you out and contribute to premature aging of the skin esp around the eyes. Even one use of it in multiple layers can cause skin damage to the facial area so please please don't let him use it on his face ever again.
I would have him use the Jan Tana face make up even if he is not necessarily going to use the body color even though I swear by the stuff hands down over PT. JT got me darker with less coats than PT did and my skin didn't feel like a yard of crepe fabric after the comp thanks to JT.
I know it seems like it is expensive but her system really does work even the pH balancing body wash helps prepare the skin for an even coating of color and the prep lotion prevents bloching due to overly dry areas like knees elbows and feet.
I am a skin girl by trade and I swear by all the JT products.
Good luck!!

once you apply the dream tan on the day of the show, is it okay to cover up again, chill out while waiting for your turn to go, and not have to reapply it when you undress again and pump up?
i was just wondering because id like to keep my baggy long sleeve and pants on all the way up until the last minute before getting on stage. i wanna pysch out my competition.

Yes in fact it's recommended , so you don't get it all over everything , i wear jogging pants (dark color) , and just a shirt or even a long sleeve shirt , cover car seats with towels , then remove them when it's time to pump up , only touch up i have done has been to my face and tops of my feet , you can even use the hotel hair dryer to help it dry faster or the AC unit in the room , try to avoid swetting , even though i had no streaks this time around.
When you put your clothes on it will feel yucky , don't swet it , it will not smear , streak , there will be little to no touch up , theres even people back stage to touch you up usually , and get ready to enjoy all the pam cooking spray and eye burning hot stuff that most the other competitors will be busy busy applying and stinking up the room with chemicals while you will be darker and not have to rush to get a shine on.

From my experience, keep the DreamTan tub and some rubber gloves with you backstage (along with blotting towels). You will need to do touchups at the comp because it will rub off on your clothes some, and your base color will start showing through. Watch in the armpits and along your upper traps, hammies (from sitting, driving, etc...)
