Operation "Flammenwerfer" turned out to encompass more than I bargained for but fit perfectly.
Some times, in order to fix what is wrong you must destroy all you have built and start new.

I learned to train and work hard long before I learned how to eat properly.
    So I quit EVERYTHING.
and went to looking like sh*t real fast.

Then I quit eating "dirty" and ate "clean", no training either.
Then I started to count my macros, no training either.
Then I combined the three and got my azz to the gym.

and there was no sense in posting here until I walked the talk.
4 training sessions in 4 days tells me I found my motivation once again but 1st I had to learn to burn the past to the ground.

Friday I had a Dr.'s appointment over many things I had let build up.
The least of my concerns should have been my primary concern but I am in the prime of my life and invincible...

Long story short, the specialist believes I may have a genetic heart condition and tells me I am a "walking time bomb".
Those of you who know my writing style know I don't put stuff in bold very often.

I avoided diabetes, I am no longer obese, and have avoided the plethora of other medical conditions that run in my family because I have trained for so long.
    But now this?

    NUTS!

This is where forum members like Corbi, theMyth, and StreesMonkey come in handy...bad stuff happened to all of them and they persevered.

I am not going to lie

    I am a little afraid.

I JUST got my sh*t together.
I have gyms to plunder, women to ravish, and creatine to snort.

I am not ready to change my username to
    TheAngelofDeath'73.

    I don't think I'm going to tell my mother anything about this...until I gotz proof...and even then...why?
(could use some advices on this folks?)

The ironic part is 2 years ago or so I was ready to kill myself.

I do not want "eternal peace".
    Now, anyways.
I just want to go on fukking sh*t up in the gym and fixing sh*t up with kids/teens.

Woah Brian. That is some heavy **** for me to absorb so I can only imagine what it must be for you. Is this something that can be reversed? Surely there has to be something to correct this? I am glad you went to a Dr. so at least now hopefully some kind of a plan can be put into place to get you healthy. As you said others on the forums have beat this stuff so surely you can to. I know your a fighter Brian and you can beat this just like you have conquered other things in your life.

As to if you should tell your mom I would not say anthing until you know for sure so you don't worry her but once you know what is what 100% I think you need to tell her. I can't tell you why its just what I would feel I would owe mine if I was in the situation and ultimately there is no right or wrong you must do what is in your heart.

What are the next steps in finding out a course of action? More tests? See another doctor?

That's a tough break but it doesn't necessarily mean the end of the line.

I sure hope this works out well for you, Brian.

My philosophy on something like this is to inform others only on a "need to know" basis. Of course, if she asks you what's going on, you'd have to level with her.

    Brian:
I've just stumbled across this journal. Trying to keep up with your journals is a challenge!!
Anyway sorry to hear the news about your cardiac issues. What I didn't hear you say are, what are the treatment options? I have a friend who at 44 had what looked like a stroke. To make a long story short, he has a hole in his heart which noone had known about. If he ever has an embolism that goes to his heart he is a dead duck but as long as he takes his daily baby aspirin, he'll be OK. The good news is that you are living in a city with a Medical School. That means that there'll be somebody who will be on top of whatever your condition is and will be up on treatment options.

Firstly .... it's great that you've found your mojo again and have got back into the gym with a vengeance. I love your training style with the high rep volume and plenty of sets. Really strong work on the leg pressing and the back and lats!

Secondly .... you're right not to let this news engulf you. Hopefully it will turn out to be nothing but make sure that you get fully investigated
What is the nature of the 'time bomb'?
I had a big scare in December. I saw a physician for a check up (at the insistence of my wife) and he heard 2 different heart murmurs. I was sent for an echo which was reported as Two very leaky valves, one 'prolapsing' (a leaflet 'blowing backwards' ) and an aorta that was twice the size it should be
This combination would mean a risk of sudden death plus giving up all heavy lifting. I was in pieces for weeks .... didn't tell my wife or anyone. I got a friend to repeat the test (I'm in the 'trade') and after an hour he could find nothing but a normal study
Long story and I don't want to hijack, but make sure that you understand what hey are saying and what the implications are, and then get it confirmed ... docs often get it wrong and most docs don't understand weightlifting and training. They also will give you advice to 'cover their @ss' not necessarily give you balanced advice that takes into account the care you obviously take with your exercise and diet.

Good luck with everything; don't worry your mum yet; chase up results and ask lots of questions; keep training and keep looking after those kids!

Prayers to you B. What doctor did you see? Was it your family doctor or a specialist. If it was a family doctor, get to a heart specialist for a full work up. My sister in law is an executive at a Cincinnati hospital group, and as she says "go to your family doctor for the sniffles, for anything else go to a specialist."

I have a few tests to schedule and the specialist is going on vacation. I will see him the beginning of March after he gets back and the test results are back.
After a few days of chewing on this and thinking more logically...I must conclude that there is nothing THAT wrong lest I should have been dead already.
I will adopt the wait and see policy and continue on with what I started.

As for my mother...unless I am in the hospital facing the Reaper she will not know about anything like this. EVER.
I am her only child and she has lost enough this life time without worrying about me.
As Vanguard can attest, she is a sweet lady and I cannot burden her.

Thank-you for reading and empathizing with my concerns. I am only human despite some of my postings.
and thank-you for the advice. I considered all of it.

    Again, thank-you.

This is twice now that bodybuilding has warned me that something was "off" with my health.

My philosophy on something like this is to inform others only on a "need to know" basis. Of course, if she asks you what's going on, you'd have to level with her.
I intentionally bolded the "may" as well.
Now that I gotz my senses back, I cannot function on what if and maybe's...that's no way to live. I'm alive, my recent lifting proves to me things are ok, so I'm gonna work under that assumption until those tests come in and I have some proof.

    Agreed.
and right now, she don't need to know.

    Thank-you.

You are very correct with covering their azz by checking and this has now sunk in for me.
As mentioned, I'll let the test results come in before I change anything.

The nature of the time bomb is my genetic history, long history of obesity up until a few years back, and some concerns of chest pain and shortness of breath.
Other than that, I really don't know.
I was too panicky at the time to ask other questions.

    Seriously, thanks for sharing.
I am better aware that it all very well could be much ado about nothing.

It sounds like he was trying to scare you! The history amounts to a strong risk factor but doesn't really mount to a 'ticking time bomb'. The previous obesity doesn't really matter at all (seriously....it's not regarded as a risk factor). The killer would be if you were a smoker on top of having the strong history. BTW .... I find it hard to imagine you were recently overweight. You look like you've been training and lean all your life in your pics and no sign of loose skin from what I've seen. The fact that you are training now is a positive and not a negative, and even if you had coronary artery disease, it's not a contra-indication to lifting

I'm sure he'll order a CT or MRI angio and that will give a good pic of your coronaries and should allay any concerns!

Wow Brian, sorry I'm late in hearing and responding to this news. Here's how I see it. If it were a truly serious, life threatening condition you would have been wheeled into surgery the day your condition was discovered.

I have my own issues I deal with - PVC arrhythmia, which I've been living with my whole life.

I'm hoping for the best for you mate!

    I need to vent, will update tomorrow;

Some stooopid bugger interrupted my training today while I was deadlifting 405 (yes, I got there tonight ).
"Other people" apparantly need to use the squat rack too despite there were 2 others (although occupied, 1 of them by a bosu ball *******).
He decided it was a wise idea to approach the only guy with any real weight on the bar and tried to hustle me out.

    LOL

"When you can lift this, you can tell me how to train, son."- moi

"Furthermore, did you know it is a capital offence to interrupt my training on every known level of hell?"
-I then twitched like a crazy mo' fo' and smiled.

If my heart is bad....I'm gonna take his.
    While its still beating.
    and eat it.

    Glandulars FTMW.

I am too old and too phucking big to put up with this infantile sh*t.
    My #1 rule.
DO NOT PHUCK WITH MY TRAINING
I will unleash the hounds of hell on ur azz.

    /endrant

We will back to my normal state of epicness tomorrow.
