Check out what my brother and I built this weekend

Many of you guys will have something to say about how it is weak of not strong however it is definitely solid enough for us. we have had about 500 pounds on it which is more than we can rep for now. this leg press is more difficult than other machines that I have used. I can only rep a plate and a quarter on each side for 6 and I can usually get six reps with three plates on other machines.

I have other pictures if anyone is interested. I will try to post a picture of it loaded with weight soon.

We built it with a plate that was parallel with the back rest but it was harder to have a longer range of motion because it put a lot more stress on your ankles. The angled foot plate helps a lot.

    very creative.
It surprises me how many people refuse to buy equipment from Elitefts because its too expensive but they will buy equipment from their competitors, then continue to go on EFS website to educate themselves for FREE

If that thing is only nailed together, you need to go back and drive an appropriate-length screw in alongside every nail.

It is all screwed together with two and a half inch screws. They are the deckmate screws.

Very creative design. Normally I cringe when I see equipment made with wood. I'd also be sure to use a lot of glue anywhere you use screws. Reinforce anywhere you can. Also, when you're using this I'd suggest no music or background noise. That way you can hear any cracking or the wood being compromised. Often wood will give you some small indicators like that before it fails completely. Hope the leg press works out well for you.

I definitely agree with reinforcing as much as possible we used wood glue in many parts, and we also used L brackets a lot.

It cost around 250 dollars maybe a bit more maybe a little less, but right around 250 dollars. The most expensive part was the flat mount pulley wheels that we used on the sled. they were around 40 dollars from amazon.

Pretty impressive overall but I see you're from the US. No good craigslist finds? I see leg presses pop up on the regular for $100-750 for consumer/pro-sumer level stuff.

So is the bar attached to something or does it just lay where ever you place it on the wood? Hard to tell (browsing on phone) but it looks to be placed on different spots in the above pics.

I've been looking on craigslist for a while for a power rack and a leg press but there are not that many that are posted and when they are posted they are usually fairly expensive. I just ended up building a power cage and the leg press and ended up saving some money.

The bar is not attached to anything. There is a space for bar to lay and gravity holds it in. The forty five degree angle of the sled keeps the bar from falling out. the bar can be placed in two different spots. The main spot is where the black bar is. The other spot is further up on the sled. I'll post some pictures of the machine with two bars on it to show this.
