I really believe it depends on the person but still, everyday is not going to help you. I have done mine 2 times a week for 2 years now and got great results. Use some weights though as you progress. 1000 crunches will not do much of anything
I should not be in RED. I made mistake of going to political forum and not agreeing with everybody. Bunch of pussies in there.

Only way to get them to show and make them look nice is low body fat round the mid section. And for training you wouldn't work any other muscle group everyday would you? 2-3 times a week is just fine.

2 times max, but you can work them 3 times max depending on intensity, stress duration, etc.

Just work them like every other muscle in your body.

So I should work my chest like I work my calves, high reps and low weight?

Dumb DK is dumb, your argument is invalid.

    i dont agree with this

i think that forearms, calves and abs can and should be worked more often and with higher number of reps

A better question is how many sets per week.

2 sets a day for 3x a week is not the same as 10 sets a day for 2x a week.

I do 10-12 sets a week spread out over 3 days.

I have most recently been doing them every four days or so:
-4 sets of 20 with decline reverse crunches, kicking on the way up and bringing my legs down straight and slowly
-3 sets of 10-12 with 120-130 pounds on the ab crunch machine
-3 sets to failure with reverse crunches

honestly you're gonna keep getting different answers to this question because every single person is different and reacts differently to all types of different stimuli. i personally work my abs every single day during a contest prep, whereas other guys i know only work them 1 or 2 times a week. during my off-season i do hit my abs at least 2 to 3 times a week to keep my core strong and tight.

You only need to work your abs at most 2-3 times a week to start seeing great results.

When you exercise though pick exercises that target your upper, lower and side abdominal muscles.

Also as other's have said doing ab exercises alone will not get you a six pack -- but having a low body fat count so they can stand out.

So work on ways to get a lower body fat % and pick compound ab exercises that target all there areas of your mid section.

I do 10 sets once per week, 5 sets upper 5 sets lower, and I'll directly work obliques every other week. Seeing significantly better results than when I did then 2-3 times a week. They get hit pretty hard during DLs and squats I feel. So I guess I'm technically still hitting them 3 times a week, whether it's direct or not.

I train abs before almost every workout, but is it the answer for you? Probably not, because everyone's body respond differently. The best advice I can give is: There is no right or wrong answer to this question, train them hard, diet hard and if you want them bad enough, they will come in time! It's as simple as that...

    Abs

You have to remember if you train every day working other body parts then you are still working your core in some fashion. That's why you really only need to hit them hard core (pardon the pun, lol) 2-3x/wk.

don't laugh at me, but I was doing 2X20 sit ups on the situp thing every day and then moved to 2X25 with hanging knee raises (don't know the name) followed by 2X15 oblique situps. that said, I have seen some real progress from my brother who started about a month and a half before me. He's doing 2X40, 2X25 hanging leg raises (?)(raises the legs to 90 degrees) and 2X15 oblique situps and he started where I am and you can now start to see a little bit of his upper abs.

Like the OP, I have gone back and forth on this. I started doing them every day, but now I work them harder 2X a week instead of 4X a week.
