I did some digging on this forum and couldn't find too much about prolactin inhibitors. Hopefully somebody knows something.
My questions: Is this something that one should even try to inhibit? I am not on steroids or taking growth hormones, so I don't believe my prolactin levels are high (I'm not breast feeding and my mammary glands haven't grown).
I am just wondering... By inhibiting prolactin do you free up more growth hormones for the body to use elsewhere?
Is it safe to inhibit prolactin? What are the methods to inhibit prolactin (if any)?
I know prolactin serves some functions in the immune system so I'm wondering is there an ideal range to keep prolactin in or can we lower it to a certain extent before our immune system takes a toll?

unless you've got gyno(natural or drug induced) there is no point.

Gyno isn't caused by prolactin. Prolactin is responsible for lactation, but estrogens are responsible for breast tissue growth.

Thanks all, that is all I was wondering. Didn't know if there was a point to continue worrying about it.
Estrogen causes growth of the breast tissue or prolactin does?

get blood work done. if you have high prolactin you will be prescribed something like dostinex or cabergoline. That will lower your prolactin which in return will raise your test levels. You can also lower your prolactin by raising your dopamine levels. and lastely if your your prolactin is very high it could be a sign of a tumor in your pituritary gland.
edit: check out the hrt forum for more info. also alot of good discussions on mindandmuscle.net/forums about it1 year out!

Well I'm glad to be able to answer this.
Prolactin plays a strong role in the male refractory period. Taking a prolactin inhibitor can block the effects of prolactin after sex and reduce if not eliminate your recovery phase.
It is safe? Depends on what compound/dose you use to inhibit prolactin, how often you use it, and how you response to it.
L-DOPA is a common prolactin inhibitor used otc. I've heard reports of chaste berry being used as well.www.cognitivenutrition.com

Not to side track, but is vitex still a good option for prolactin control, for example, during and/or after an SD cycle?
I can't remember which was supposedly good ****.

Vitex is great for lowering testosterone:

I have heard good things about Pramipexole for prolactin issues, also a good one is cabaser (cabergoline)

would high amounts of mucuna work at all for prolactin? There is always cabergoline but it might have sides.

I know there are better drugs out there, but bromocriptine has always worked well for me at the 1.25 mg dosage. Just ease into it and make sure you take it with food! I made the mistake of taking too much, too soon, and on an empty stomach -- I ended up with unspeakable nausea!

I disagree. There are a lot of reasons to lower prolactin and a WHOLE LOT of benefits to modulating dopamine. pramipexole, cabergoline and selegiline being the "big three".
P5P is a great version of B-6, but its pretty worthless for prolactin suppression. Also high end doses are not really a good idea, considering that it down regulates AR expression MORE than it downregulates ER expression.

this is not an effective stack. l-dopa supplementation will tend to cause more issues than it helps, because it will increase all dopamine activity. Unless you have a dopamine deficit. D1 activity being a factor in issues over benefits.
there is a reason that pharmaceutical dopaminergics tend be be selective. l-dopa also tends to cause spikes and crashes.
I reccomend pramipexole, it has a lot of benefits that cabergoline does not, in particular the very significant increases in gh production. Though for prolactin suppression alone, cabergoline is a solid and basically equivalent choice. Selegiline is a good option, with nootropic benefits, but it can make you test positive for amphetamines and its not as effective for prolactin suppression (its somewhat to moderately effective)

Animal study: ginkgo is prolactin inhibitor
Ginkgo biloba supplements decrease the production of the testosterone-inhibiting hormone prolactin in the body, according to Taiwanese researchers in Hormones & Behavior. Ginkgo probably increases the dopamine levels in the brain. Dopamine inhibits the release of prolactin.
The Taiwanese tested male rats, which were given ginkgo daily for four weeks. The researchers used four groups of animals, which were administered zero, 10, 50 or 100 mg of ginkgo per kg body weight per day. During the month the researchers put the male rats together with female rats and recorded the number of times they had sex. The figure on the right shows the number of times the rats had sex during the last day of the test.
Because the researchers wanted to know how ginkgo stimulates the sexual behaviour of rats, they measured the testosterone and prolactin levels. The effect was most clear in the group of animals that had received 50 mg per kg body weight a day.
In high concentrations, prolactin inhibits the production of testosterone. But even when prolactin levels are too low to reduce the production of testosterone, prolactin can still reduce the sex drive. When the researchers examined the brains of the rats in the 50 mg group, they discovered higher concentrations of dopamine and its metabolite 3,4-dihydroxyphenylacetic acid. The Taiwanese researchers think that this is why ginkgo acts as a prolactin inhibitor. They also tested whether ginkgo influences the production of testosterone in the testes directly, but the results were inconclusive.
