Can I ask why if this is a barbell crew thread most people post plates not barbells? Is this an ivanko crew instead? Just curious as I own two barbells and a set of chrome plated ivankos.

I assumed it's because the company name is Ivanko Barbell Co.

That's a bit pedantic. If we were the Ford Motor Crew, and we posted pictures of our cars built by the Ford Motor Company and not specifically the engines, would you have issue with that too?


Clearly, it's the Ivanko Barbell Company. The plates indeed say Ivanko Barbell Company. The crew doesn't belong to the company, so it can't be the Ivanko Barbell Company Crew. So, yeah Ivanko Barbell Crew seems apt.

Two reasons, first the reasons given by 1651 & Clive. The second is because bars aren't as easy to come by or we just don't need extra bars. Plates on the other hands are always useful. From multiple lifting stations to loading up leg presses & plate loaded equipment, there's always an excuse to buy more plates. If I was going to buy another bar, it would be a specialty bar, at least unless I saw a killer deal on another OBX-20kg or other Ivanko powerlifting style bar.

For the record, I do own some Ivanko OM plates. They're very nice, but it's only about 300lbs, and I don't own an Ivanko bar. I don't think that's really enough to bother joining the crew.

Quick question here. I'm shopping for an Ivanko curl bar to add to the collection. Mostly looking at black oxide. I seem to recall there was one model that was substantial inferior in quality to the others. Among the three black oxide ones, except for measurements is there any difference? And also, on the stainless curl bar, is it still chrome over stainless? I've heard both ways.

Last post on these plates. I didnt end up liking the clear, it just got more and more white as it dried. Picked up some matte black and painted the 2.5s, 5s, and 10s today, ran out of time so couldnt get the rest of them done.

Once these dry, I think I am going with a silver sharpie for the letters/numbers.

Those plates look great. Matte black is sweet. It looks much better than semi-gloss. I'm now just waiting to see the silver on black. Should look slick on the down low.

Picked up tremclad rust in matte black. I was trying to figure out the difference between all of the different kinds of tremclad (regular, universal, painters touch, etc) and just decided on the rust version lol. The guys are HD werent very helpful either ...

yeah I am really liking it so far, I have done both sides now just have to wait till tomorrow night for it to fully dry then Ill put the sharpie to work

Oh real nice!

The black 15kg CBP in black is much better IMO than the version in yellow - I went to buy some 15kg brand new (in Europe) thinking they were black and they were actually Yellow... I didn´t know they did a 10kg in white.. Looks like they´ve changed the colours a few times as the current (discontinued) picture on the Ivanko website shows the black 10kg and 15kg.

Nice find and great stack of OMs too.

They turned out great. To others who have painted plates in the past using flat black, how well does it hold up when compared to satin or semi-gloss? I'd be concerned the flat surface would really hold onto chalk.

Just saw this Vintage Ivanko OBX 20 kg on CL Los Angeles, says it has a 9" center gnurl!

"Original Vintage IVANKO POWER BAR COLLECTOR OBX- 20KG"

"This is the Vintage Original series OBX-20kg black oxide bar.
One inch longer than current models, it is 87 1/2 "
This is the original pre "silly gnurl" pattern, with 9" center gnurl as opposed to the current 4 3/4" gnurl.
Brand new SRK snap ring kit , installed by Ivanko.
First edition of the Round end cap model.
Certified as straight by Ivanko.
Gnurling was just described as "perfect to his eye" by the Ivanko Co. president.
Also described a very special "rare" bar by head of sales at Ivanko Co.
I personally have never seen another bar like this one.
Not for your garage powerlifter, this belongs in a museum.
I'm open to local offers for now and will likely list this on ebay shortly and ship it internationally to a collector."

Holy mother of knurl!

Interesting bar. Did they replace the end caps as well as the snap rings? From what I've heard, they're difficult to remove without damaging and replacing them. According to the description, it's the "First edition of the Round end cap model" but the chrome plated end caps look the same as the ones on the "silly knurl" bars. My pre "silly knurl" bars have black oxidized end caps. I had thought the black oxidized caps might be the oldest but it's just a guess. Maybe Ivan will see this and fill us in on the details.

Thanks guys! I've been lurking the Equipment forums the past several months since I started putting together my garage gym. Going to try to be more active now that I have some free time.

I read somewhere that the white 10kg plates were an older design and the black 15kg replaced the yellow ones. Who knows really.

I have a set of 35/25/10/2.5/1.25 which were painted in flat black. The chalk shows up and stays on there, but I don't ever bother rubbing them off. It can be easily brushed off if I cared to clean them.

Dude, those CBPs are nice. I have one pair of 25kg. I was never a fan of the black 15kg (would never turn it down though) & I had never seen the 10kg in white. That's a very nice pick up. Now you just need the 25kg & 50kg pair to round out the big plates.
The OMs & EZs just sweeten the pot.

That's a solid collection of plates you have so far.
