How soon after we wake up in the morning should we eat breakfast?

In the Abs Diet book I'm reading, they say a person should not wait any more than 30 minutes after waking up to have breakfast. If the person waits more than 30 minutes they risk slowing down their metabolism.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks

And so if you wait 31 minutes the metabolism slows down.. Well of course when you don?t eat metabolism slows down. But it speeds up when you eat. so it basically doesn't matter that much.

I would like to see a study on this before I can believe it . Morning your liver glycogen status is low so it's good to fill it up but it's not going to make you or break you. If you don't like to eat morning that's fine and vice versa. Some just get real hungry during the day if they won't eat breakfast. But it really comes down to personal preference.

Best advice anyone can give you, dont worry about timing, it's all about calories in calories out meaning if you eat 2000 calories a day, it doesnt matter how you split those calories up into certain amount of meals, just that you only take in your allowed calorie level.

I don't think waiting until you are actually hungry is going to have any affect on your metabolism. Some people aren't hungry when they first get up. Just don't skip breakfast if you are hungry since your body has been without food for 8+ hours.

    Hey North,

If the abs diet told u to lose ten pounds, just cut off your right arm...would u do it???? No of course not, the whole idea with abs diet and other diets that want u to eat frequent meals is that they want u to eat so u dont binge on crap at night. If u want to lose weight keep at a calorie deficit, keep protein high, lift weights, and do some cardio. If u do that and are motivated u can accomplish anything!!!!!!!!!!!

    Best of luck,

Protein should be adequate, not high.

I get up at 4- lift on an empty stomach from 430-6am then drink a protein shake and eat a meal at about 8am. No problems with my metabolism thus far! btw-I can't lift on a full stomach, makes me sick... But even on my non training days, I get up and do stuff eating about 45 mins to an hour later.

I read that if you wait 32 minutes, you literally you loose 5 lbs a day

Eat some protein and carbs in the morning probably up to an hour or so after you wake up and/or whenever is convenient. You'd should be pretty hungry after the hour mark.

maybe its just me but i'm usually starving when i wake up. I have my protein powder next to my bed ready to rock in the morning. I usually down that and some kind of healthy fat and head off to the gym. I dont know why but if i eat many carbs before workout time i get REALLY sluggish.

but yes calories in vs calories out, you'll feel better in my opinion if you space it out throughout the day but if you eat less then you burn then you'll lose weight.

I've never read anything more inaccurate. As the old saying goes, "Timing is everything." Especially when it comes to your diet and when your body requires proper nutrition. Eat within an hour and you should be good

Woke up today, made bacon and eggs. Mmm mmm good.

No care was given to timing.

Stressing about timing is silly, being even if their is an optimum time, you can't say you know the optimum time for YOU. Until someone comes out with a constant hormone/blood test reading you can monitor 24/7 AND knows all the variables, its at best a personal guess.

Most days I go a good few hours between waking up and my first meal, but that's down to my work schedule etc.

If I had it my way I would probably eat within half hour, but you gotta do what you can.

Considering I train in the morning, I'll have my pre after I wake up @ 330am, and hit the gym by 3.45, finish up at 6.15am head home cook my lunch for the day shower, and such eat breakfast at like 7am. so i guess im pushing 3.5hrs after I wake up. considering this is the way I did it when i lost over 100lbs now, I would say its just about getting your calories in during what ever time you choose. but thats just my experience

This is usually my schedule and I found just eating when you are hungry with enough calories works just fine especially for those who do not always work regular hours.
