Question Hammer Strength V-Squat vs. regular 45 degree Hack Squat Machine?

Joined a new gym, and it doesn't have a hack squat machine, which I typically used on my 2nd (non squat) leg workouts weekly.

It does have two Hammer Strength V-Squat machines; one plate loaded and the other has a stack (MTS).

What are the similarities/differences between these two exercises (hack squat vs V-squat)?

Haven't tried it yet but I thought I might tomorrow. Looks like the V-squat might allow some back involvement in the lift whereas the traditional hack slide machine does not.

Anyone have experience or knowledge of both?

    Thanks in advance.

    -=FLEX=-

PS: I normally do hack slides with a narrow stance and feet out front.

I prefer my v-squat machine over my hack squat machine. Both hit the quads well, but i am more comfortable int he v-squat.

I treat the v-squat as my heavy quad move though, where was hack squat I've only been able to use as a move that is placed later in my workouts. I've never been able to go real heavy on it.

Hurt your knees? That was my biggest issue with the hack slides. I was doing 450 for 6 reps, but killed my knees.

Naw. To be honest I never gave it a ton of time in the gym. I'd use it occasionally, but I just couldn't get it down well to where i was comfortable on it and could really start progressing. I'm not blaming the equipment, just itw asn't a move I really enjoyed, so it didn't get a lot of play time in the gym.

just do back squats and front squats.

both of those machines machines suck compared to the former, but you probably won't notice a difference in there effects.

    Never liked front squats.

I've never had the opportunity to use a V-Squat, Jim, but after looking at the vid on Life Fitness' site, I don't see much difference between it and the garden-variety Hack. The only real mechanical difference I see is that the V pivots in a slight arc, as opposed to most Hack Machines running on straight linear shafts. The arc may assist your knee issue; time will tell.

A good machine, IMO; if I had one, I'd wear it out.

    Thanks for the input, Bill.

Deads & Legs tomorrow; I think I'll give it a try.

If I like it maybe I'll alternate between that and leg press on my 2nd leg day. I really like the HS leg press at this club too.

Try everything in there, one piece at a time. Besides leaving a bunch of a$$hats behind, one of the best things about changing gyms is the opportunity to try out new equipment, especially for legs and back.
