FS 310 today. Had a bunch of random looking bumpers on the bar, so it looked like more than it actually was. Some guy comes up to me
Some guy: Bro, that's pretty impressive. How much was that front squat?
Me: It's 310.
Him: Kilograms?
Me: *Bertstare for 5 seconds*
Me: If I could front squat 310 kilos, I would be on the streets fighting crime.
In the ensuing discussion, it became clear that he did not actually know what a kilogram was.

165lb/75kg Hang Snatch PR Review
Alright guys before you hammer me too much on this I've got a few notes to make.
When in the overhead position I can't get much below parallel because of several things I'm sure, but mainly it's the lack of dorsi flexion in my left ankle from breaking it playing Rugby and never getting PT more than 5 years ago which doesn't allow me to push my hips a little more forward to remain balanced. When getting deep in the hole with the weight overhead my weights shifts severely to my heels to the point of imbalance.
I also have an issue with looking down when getting out of the hole.
Edit: I realize the imbed is a little small. If anyone knows what html code I can use to make it bigger please let me know.
Obviously I'm strong enough for 165lbs right now, but I'd like to address these issues now so lifting even heaver will not become an issue due to deeply engrained habits.
Any advice/constructive criticism would be greatly appreciated.Dirty Leb Crew

notbad/10. Seen much worse snatches from a beginner....*cough jb cough*....
you initiate the movement with your arms/back. you should keep you arms/back tight but start with pushing the floor away with your legs and fire the hips (your hips don't seem to be adding much explosion to the bar, make sure your extending them through the bar). in general though that didn't look bad, you do a good job keeping the bar close to you. make sure your stretching a lot. If you can, get a coach! If you cant, watch lots of lifting vids to get a sense of what good technique is like, and spend a lot of time doing bar work to get used to the movement patternGet This Shiiiiiiiiiiiit

It depends on the person and how they pull (talking about the deadlift). Usually the hips rise faster than the shoulders in the dead, and the shoulders are behind the bar. In a clean the shoulders and hips rise together, and the shoulders are over the bar until the top of the 2nd pull.

why u pickin on jb brah my snatches sucked uber dick too lol
Anyone know what the russians/ukranian coaches are saying when their lifters just catch the snatch/jerk? In this vid it's what the first 2 guys say at 0:19 sec. If you watch competition vids you'll know what I'm talking about. Im guessing it's similar to when Americans say "hold it", but I just want to know the direct translation lol.Last edited by huntito; 12-27-2012 at 03:22 PM.

Many words crossover into polish from Russian. I probably shouldn't have read your statement first, but it seriously does sound like they're saying HOLD!
In polish hold is trzymac...and when you're using it in the "you hold it" way, the way it sounds is "chim-eye" it sounds like they're saying that really fast.Snatch: 122

How you been doing? With nothing to do over the holiday but practice, I have been improving, particularly in the jerk.
I've experimented with snatch/clean+jerk first followed by squat+other strength work, and the reverse order. I found
If I snatch/C+J first (i.e traditional programming style), everything else blows. Can't squat for absolute ****.
If I do strength work first (squatting, push press, whatever) and then snatch/C+J (i.e reverse order to traditional) it has no impact on the classic lifts.
Anyone know why this might be?

Because snatching and C&Jing is a lot harder than other ****. lol.
In regards to your video...you are a lot stronger than what you're lifting. You are cutting your pull short in an attempt to get under the bar faster and that's why you're jumping back so much. Also don't put your head down on the catch in the snatch.
Keep training hard brah. The best Weightlifting forum on the web:

You're jerks need some rhythm... According to Jon North, the chinese do an exercise simliar to jerk drives, but it is more bouncing and it is to feel the rhythm of the bar and how the floats a bit at the top of your drive. If you figure out your rhythm you'll be able to push under way better IMO. Splitting longer might help too.
