I'm not sure why this is news, maybe because of creative jobs reports. Retirement age has long be 65, and with the recent market hits in 2008, many are hurting in the retirement savings department. It's been long discussed that people are working well into their 60's or later now.

I think the astonishment is more due to the total amount, especially since more jobs have gone to the 56-69 group than was "created".
Also given the fact "all the jobs are going to old workers, who have zero wage bargaining leverage (as they just want to have a day to day paycheck)" hurts anyone trying to come into the work force and/or trying to advance in it.-

So, if I understand this (haven't had TV on all day)...Colorado and Washington state both legalized marijuana?
That's awesome.

Yes, i think a mention of the younger demographic losing jobs would have been relevant in the news, but well, they have their own agendas.
The older population is hired more now because they are more reliable. They are less likely to suddenly leave to pursue other opportunities, and they do not have young kids to shape their schedules around. They show up, work, go home and are happy to do so. A 30 yr old in the same position will constantly be looking for something better.oh and gecko that link did not contain answers only the search page - swiftness_02

No hate here K-Dawg however I thought the Twitter stuff from his staff was in poor taste before Romney had even made his concession speech. Romney's site on the other hand streamed the president's speech.
And yes I do think a lot of his rhetoric is fluff. It sounded like fluff 4 years ago although I could certainly understand the excitement of essentially coming from nowhere to become the country's first black president, however 4 years on with a lot of work to do and some serious challenges, I'd expect celebrations to be more muted and voters more circumspect.
I wouldn't say the majority – more like half of the popular vote and it's looking like the Divided States of America.
He's won over the majority of female voters, almost every African-American voted for him, over two-thirds of Hispanic voters, and of course his faithful younger demographic on Twitter. That does not represent the majority.
Anyway, the US has some serious problems, the biggest of which is the economy and it'll take more than polished speeches about the future and a lot of flag waving to address that.

I don't like arguing politics because I annoy even myself, but these two things seem to be among the most common touted points. Here would be my thoughts:
1) You do have health care coverage, that's the problem. Even if you "don't want it" hospitals are required to take you in. So you don't pay crap, then you saddle everyone else with paying for your 100k heart attack hospital visit in the form of increased rates and more expensive exams/visits/etc. With a universal care system, people will be covered and the hospital won't have to make up for the time/procedures helping one guy who couldn't pay by distributing that loss among the other patients. They get paid for every visit now and the average visit goes down across the board. That's how it works in the countries that already do it.
Insurance companies won't be able to gouge, and the richest docs and private med firms will make less. Together they make a powerful lobby and spread that anti "socialist" message I keep hearing. It's bogus.
2) Why should capital gains be taxed at any less of a rate than your normal tax bracket? How do they differ from any other kind of income except that you actually have to work LESS for them? It's basically free money for the people who have extra money, and I see no reason why it should be taxed less.
I also find the delaying retirement argument questionable. The majority of the working class investing money for retirement are doing so through 401k's, which don't get the benefit of capital gains tax rates. They're taxed at normal income rates even though the majority of money in them may actually be from capital gains. It's again the middle class that are the suckers here.Master of karate, and friendship, for everyone crew.

The Psi "Gift" is an attribute that is assigned randomly at the end of the psi test to each soldier that underwent it, with some dependence on their will.
*edit - I made the assumption that you had already built a Psi Lab and was just wondering how units were chosen.

Vox already perfectly explained why.
The money was taxed as income. It was then invested, at your own risk. Why the hell should the government get to tax that money again?
Do they subsidize it when you incur losses on your invested money? No? So why should they get to tax what you make? You invested that money, at your own risk, after the government already taxed that money once. And now they get to take from it again? And now we want to increase the % they take, when they are taking for the second time?

I hear this all the time, but it's a misrepresentation. They aren't taxing the same money, they're taxing the gain. A 100k investment that earns 50k is taxed on 50k, not 150k. It's free money, you put it in and it sits there and earns. The problem is the super wealthy put all their money in there, and make millions off dividends, interest, and returns and have no "earned" income, so they contribute very little to taxes and shoulder the worker bees with the burden.
Take another example, invest 100k in a business. That's a risk you're taking. You start earning money and it's taxed at normal income tax rate while you're actually working and contributing to society.
I don't get what distinguishes the two except for the risk in the business is actual work.Master of karate, and friendship, for everyone crew.

Obama won the highly-educated vote too, so yeah...
Also, a democracy is supposed to represent the majority, regardless of their "intelligence". The system does what it's supposed to, the country is just swinging to a more diverse and socially liberal direction, and social conservatives can argue all they want but it is what it is. I'm a feminist. I have no problem with gay marriage. I don't care if you smoke pot.
I don't care what people do if it doesn't directly affect me. People are people, and we all deserve the same rights and chances regardless of where, how, who and what we were born as.
That said, I hate the democratic party.Master of karate, and friendship, for everyone crew.

This is what's really frying the Republican party, in my opinion. Americans have shown a willingness to be open minded about economic plans (i.e. tilting slight right or slight left), but it's the gay hate; a loud, intolerant religious sector; and indifference toward environmental issues that are turning voters away from the "Right." Whether it's entirely true of most people on the right is irrelevant because it's the public perception of the party that matters in elections.
That's fine if you don't condone a certain lifestyle or behavior. We all have our own ideas about what should be acceptable. But your disapproval doesn't give you the right to use government as a force to impose that will on everyone. Too many on the right just don't seem to grasp this.

She's a fukn idiot to run in a race where she knew she was gonna get her ass handed to her, that's the second time, totaling $100 million. I really think they should limit campaign spending to 10 million.
You might, but I'll be retired at 60.
He didn't win my vote, nor did Mittens. They're both fukn buffoons, actually both the democratic and republican parties are.

I read that Gary Johnson received more votes in this election than any Libertarian in history. I agree with most libertarian ideas in principle, but their practicality in today's society is a tough sell. Hopefully we can at least gradually move more in that direction.
