Have you found that your core doesn't recover properly if you go heavier? I'm talking about using your 5-8RM's.

Didn't you do 175x0 pretty recently? Anything you've changed that you think contributed to the sudden increase in your press?

Heavier on sit-ups? I don't see a reason to do anything under 15 reps for them.

The most I had ever pressed before yesterday was 175 x 3, and that 175 x 0 was on a really bad day.

Hey RipCJ, I'm starting Texas Method real soon and I wanna do power cleans. I'm considering perhaps doing them on recovery day when I bench/OHP with a lighter weight and with front squats (2x5 to start with then 3x3), with a view to learning how to perform a full clean at a later date. The volume will be squat, bench/ohp and chins and intensity would be squat, bench/ohp, deadlift and pendlay rows. What's your opinion on this setup? I'm not screwing my recovery day up am I? You obviously have alot of experience with TM so I'd value your input

I think you would be fine cleaning with recovery. I think you could even replace chins with power clean on volume and be fine. I would probably ditch rows on intensity, though.

    This.

    I like this set up

    VD
    Squats
    Bench/OHP
    RDL/BB Rows circuit or PC

    Recovery
    FS
    OHP/Bench
pc if not done on VD

    ID
    Squat
    bench
    dead

Some people even clean on ID and do their deads on VD. WHen I tried TM for the first time I was doing DL on Recovery day which was a horrible idea.

Ok, so bearing all this in mind would the following be better given that I'd like to keep chins, rows and power cleans in my schedule? I don't think I could do cleans at the end of volume. I'd probably be too tired.

    VD
    Squat 5x5
    Bench/OHP 5x5
    Pendlay Rows 5x5

    RD
    Front Squat 2x5
    Power Cleans 8x2
    OHP/Bench 3x5 @ 90/80%
Chin Ups 3 sets with b/w only, never weighted

    ID
    Squat 1x5
    Bench/OHP 1x5
    Deadlift 1x5

Sound ok? Sorry to hijack your journal!

If I'm doing too much on recovery do you have any suggestions that also allow for rows and chins?

I've got it. He says to split assistance like chins and rows between VD and ID and to create a 4th assistance day after VD to do power cleans. I don't wanna do a 4th day. Also don't wanna butcher the program.

I think that setup you have here will work fine. The thing about the Texas Method is that it is not a specific program, but more of an idea. You can pretty much do whatever you want, as long as you have enough volume to show a gain in strength for intensity. And between all of this you have the right amount of recovery. I don't think power cleans and chins on recovery is too much at all.

    11/11/12 - Intensity

    SQUAT:
    462.5 x 3

    BENCH PRESS:
    270 x 3

    DEADLIFT:
    500 x 1

    DECLINE SIT-UP:
    B/W + 45 x 20
    B/W + 45 x 20
    B/W + 45 x 20

    WEIGH-IN:
    198 lbs

    COMMENTS:
Squat warm-ups were really heavy and slow, so I was very happy with repping out 462.5. Bench press was also very solid. Going to stick with 500 until I get three reps.

Time of each workout is listed at the end of the comments. I split the volume workout in two parts so if you are doing both squat and bench press in the same one it will take a lot longer. I will deload when my body is feeling really beat up; cannot remember the last time I had to do that.

I do squat and bench volume on the same day. I'm usually in the gym for about an hour and a half, which includes warmup and pwo dump.

I was actually wondering that myself.

I was also wondering if you pull sumo or conventional.

I'll throw in another thumbs up to the 70's big TM e-book, it's such a great resource for the program. What advanced book are you referring to?
