    Do Protein Shakes Cause Acne?

This can't just be my imagination; I started using protein shakes this week and my arms broke out in acne! They were totally clear 7 days ago. Has anyone else experienced this?

definitely. I took protein shakes when i first started working out and developed a TERRIBLE case of acne. It got better after I stopped the shakes though, try cutting out milk from your diet as well, that might help.

Not only that, but I had funny hallucinations at night from all the sweeteners and other poison those nimrods put in their products such as Muscle Milk and other over-priced **** like ON etc. All you get is bloating, aftertaste, gas etc.

If you can't easily meet your protein goals with food try a natural unflavored whey isolate. The kind that has only one ingredient: whey.

I don't see what in a protein shake would cause acne. Are you sure its acne? Could be an allergic reaction - I could see that.

I never got any breakouts from using protein. Have you tried stopping using the shakes and seeing if the acne clears up?

Well yes, now that you mention it...I had been using protein after any workout all this summer (which included long distance runs), and my arms were horrible all summer. I stopped using protein shakes for about a month because I stopped working out and my skin was great. I'll cut out milk for a week and let ya know how it goes! Thanx

The only thing I've gotten from protein shakes has been... muscle gain. Yeeeeeaaaaah!

Seriously though, how much milk do you normally drink? If you never drink milk, then suddenly started drinking it with your shakes, it is more likely the milk that's causing problems.

I see you're a personal trainer; in light of protein shakes and dairy, will cutting out either be beneficial for cutting fat? I've heard milk can be a weight gain culprit...but I've also heard it's good for building lean muscle. So many contradictions! Any clarification would be super appreciated!

I never drink milk except in protein shakes...I think milk is disgusting. I never even would have thought milk was the culprit. Interesting....

    Stress?

I would look to other options as well as just a protein powder.

Not saying that it couldn't be the powder, but I would definitely consider other causes. Good luck.

    Maybe for some people.

I'm sure you can find someone who gets acne or some kind of bad reaction for any food/supplement.

    But no...it's not supposed to.
