Agreed. And that's why I'm saying he wasn't directly attacking westside. I think he's mainly speaking to the guys who think they're doing "westside" and think you have to use bands, live on a reverse hyper, and box squat every week.
Making money seems to be about using others ideas, changing and rebranding them, then selling a book about it. After all thats what Louie did with the conjugate method and the maximal effort method. So Lilly isn't really using Westsides methods per se, he's taking ideas from the Russians and Bulgarians, like Louie.
Yes the cube method has a max effort day, and a speed day. But the speed days aren't the same. no boxes, no accommodating resistance (which i'm pretty sure westside still does). And he's saying you can get strong with a barbell. you don't need a camber bar, RH, all of the jump swing things Westside has, etc.
To me, it looked similar to 5/3/1 in a lot of ways. You had a higher reps week (5s and it looks like the does a lot of AMRAP stuff with a given weight as you would on 5/3/1). And there is a week where you work up to a heavy single. And his philosophies seem similar. Just basic barbell training, no need to overcomplicate things.
I think the cube is a lot easier to set up than trying to set up band waves and circa max phases, etc. I guess we'll see when the book comes out.

And reverse band stuff was called the lightened method or the future method. duno if that counts.

Even Lou says you shouldn't use bands as a beginner and shouldn't do strength speed(band waves) or circa Max unless you are advanced. Also its in the Max effort method to hit 3-5 reps above 90% which again Louie has said that could be a 5RM, 3RM, or 3 singles up to a 1RM. Straining is the main goal. (RTS anyone?)
I'm all for Brandon coming out with this but it will capitalize on miss understandings of the Westside Methods it is based on. If any deserves origination credit its Mel Siff which Louie has never hid that fact and has always given full credit to everyone for every thing they've done.My Training Journal: http://tinyurl.com/jasons-journal

Yeah Siff definitely had a lot of the ideas before anyone else. And Prillipitin (spelling) did the lifts at given percentages.
I get what you're saying and there are clearly some borrowed ideas. Wendler, Lilly, and Tate all trained at Westside and I do find it interesting that none of them seem to preach that westside is the way to go anymore, and none of them still train that way, though Tate does seem to box squat a lot so he held onto that idea. I'd say Brandon kept the things he felt made him stronger, and ditched the unneeded stuff that was just a hassle, which is what every lifter should do.
I've got a friend who is doing RTS and it looks like complete overkill to me. All of this perceived effort stuff and fatigued sets. It's too much math and thinking IMO.

They all are also trying to sell something...
Edit : Tate as far as I know still believes in Westside methods for its intended purposes. Getting stronger. My Training Journal: http://tinyurl.com/jasons-journal

Very true.
I think everyone is trying to sell something and is obviously going to have a bit of bull**** going on with what they say. But I'm typically going to go with whatever seems simpler to setup and requires me to have the least amount of equipment in my home gym. That's why I was a fan of 5/3/1.
I do obviously think Lilly believes in what he's doing, as his whole group trains that way. And he's got guys like Chad Walker and Joey Smith who are both willing to do it. I'm just excited to see how it looks and how well it works for me and others.

I have no doubt that the cube method will work.

I've had the cinnabun, delicious. Just finished jamocha ISO was good. Currently have banana cream, choco peanutbutter, and two tubs of shamrock shake. Banana cream is so-so, but mixed with the choco pb is pretty good. I like to mix them. What size is your cinnamon? Wanna trade for banana
