A lot of people are obsessed with gay rights, I can understand if a homosexual is fighting for gay rights, but why are liberals so obsessed with it? Gays are probably not even 1% of the population yet it is constantly a major issue that is brought up, there are bigger issues out there that need to be fixed instead of us worrying about whether Adam can marry Steve, thoughts misc brahs?

I'm of the opinion that gay marriage is wrong but don't see it as a thing the government should be involved in restricting.
The problem is that it is only really an issue in places where it's up for vote. It's so low on the totem pole right now it doesn't even get a mention in 3 debates. I also saw a poll that said that even for gays, gay marriage isn't that far up the list of priorities right now.Vikings--Wolves-Gophers

Plenty of people can't have babies. Should they be banned from getting married too? And two loving dads (or moms) is far better than an orphanage or foster home until 18.
I don't think it's a big issue, but it's an obvious issue and just because gays happen to be a small % of the population doesn't mean their rights don't matter..."Too often we enjoy the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought." – John F Kennedy.

Why is gay marriage so important, why is there so much effort by right-wingers to deny equal marriage rights to the <1% of the population who happen to be homosexual? I don't get it. Can't we just have equal rights?

No way jose. What they do in the bedroom is icky and this one book I read told me it's not allowed!
But seriously... it's already legal in a few states. I give it 10 years before our entire country besides maybe a few states allow gay marriage. It's basic human right's. No logical argument against it.*Certified ****head Crew*

OP in 1964: I can understand if black people are fighting for their rights, but why does anybody else care?
it is a major civil rights issue right now, and some of us would like to see our nation finally come out of the dark ages and stop basing laws on a 2000 year old book. the fact that we're still debating this in 2012 is sad.Meditation is the sh*t (srs) (no hippy) (strong informative thread):

I have no idea, honestly flamers bother me more than uptight Christian zealots though.
As a military guy, i'm fine with gays in the military.(Even if it would be akward at first with a gay guy behind you when you stack up to breach) It's no differant than gays going to the YMCA. I really have better things on my plate than to care.
As far as an American, I don't care if they marry. Marriage should still just be two people in my opinion though.
BUT, I can't stand when flamers get free passes to be ****s and agressivly hit on straight guys, and then when they tell them to (polietly) back off, it's "HOMOPHOBE!".
Or the, "LOOK AT ME! LOOK AT ME!" ****. I don't care if you join the military, or get married, or adopt, or whatever else. Just keep it to your ****ing self to a reasonable degree. No light to guide.

Far from the top of my list of priorities.
The anti-gay marriage stuff annoys me because it's the height of emotionally driven illogical crap. No straight person would be affected in any way by gay marriage, but a lot of them are such effeminate bitches that they get their panties all bunched up over two people wanting to have a kind of marriage that they don't want to have. "Boo hoo, those two ****s want to get married. That makes me feel icky mommy government, please make those mean gays stop it!"
It's one of the most obvious examples of pointless authoritarian BS.*Type O Negative Crew*

I don't get this "equal rights" bs argument. There isn't a right to marry who you want. A man can marry a woman, a woman can marry a man. I don't see man marrying a man or woman marrying a woman is = in any way. People aren't just people with different sexual organs, there are differences between the sexes. If you want equal rights you already have them, you want a right that doesn't exist for anyone.
and lmfao at the people saying "we live in the future now, where everyone should agree with our agenda or they aren't in the future with us." It is 2012 and *******ry isn't magically awesome because you think times need to change... for you.Last edited by MrShenanigan; 10-18-2012 at 02:28 AM.

For the same reason people were concerned with blacks and women having equal rights. It doesn't matter how small the group is, every human being deserves equal rights and people are uncomfortable living in a society filled with bigotry that denies certain groups of these rights based upon ignorant things such a sex, skin color, ethnicity, or sexual orientation. Notsureifserious OP, although you are only 21, honestly, I certainly didn't give a **** about others at that age.

Liberals historically have supported social progression and civil rights. Why would liberals ignore the discrimination of an entire segment of the population based on lies and religious corruption?
Gays make up a bit more than 1% of the population. And when you factor in the entire LGBT community, you're approaching at least 10%.
Every generation has some type of social/civil issue that needs to be fought.

You do realize most gays aren't like that, and why do you think it's ok for obnoxious, aggressive men to hit on women who want nothing to do with them, but god forbid a gay guy hits on you? You should consider it a compliment, because gay guys have notoriously high taste. Unless they are physically molesting you, just be like "Thanks for the compliment, but I'm straight". Any decent gay guy will accept that.
Straight guys who are secure with their sexuality have nothing to fear from being hit on by gays. Only those with insecurities are some how repulsed because a guy happens to think you're attractive.
And again, welcome to what straight guys have been doing to women for all of human history.
