I had a friend tell me he wanted to go on a protein shake only diet for like 4 weeks or so, to cut. I told him he was crazy, but then I went and played around with the figures. At 6 meals a day you would be taking in:
1860 calories
12g fat
78g carbs
360g protein
If you upped the fat by taking some fish oil pills, and maybe some vegetables like green beans or something for extra carbs and to get some real food, would this actually be doable/effective for a short-term diet, like 4-6 weeks?

Its very doable.
There are several people that rely on shakes for there protein intake.
Its very cost effective and the BV of the amino acids is unmatched.
As long as you put take it down with a fat/fiber/carb source your set!
I'll usually use 1-2 meals a day as a protein shake. Put 2tbsn pb in there and some veggies and fruit with it.
But as always food>supplements.The Iron never lies to you. You can walk outside and hear all kinds of talk, get told that you're a god or a total bastard. The Iron will always kick you the real deal. if ur going to do this then make sure u have some oatmeal / brown rice / WW bread / Quinoa / WW pasta on the side with ur shake and some good fats.. like peanut butter/olive oil/flax oil/ or almonds on the side to get ur other daily macros
its not ideal beause u will be getting literally no nutritoin from ur shakes
make sujre u have ur fruits and veggies to get back at that and a good multi-vitamin.. sure its cheap and it would work.. but not the most idealistic thing to do

Sounds good, but you're going to be starving and probably binge. In theory, though, it would work.
Definitely try a mixture of shakes, egg, soy, casein, anything but whey would be more ideal.
Edit...You can't get 48g of fat from fish oil pills(60g is pretty much the minimum) so you'll have to take a few tbsp of oil or somethingLast edited by Sibrek; 09-19-2007 at 12:44 PM.

He stated fish oil man. I'm not bitchin but dont offer advice that is gonna mess a person up. Where's his fiber if he doesnt eat those veggies (his friend never mentioned veggies he wants to do all protein shakes)? where's his sodium? Where's his vitamins and minerals..dont say multi thats the same as relyin on fish oil for fat. What about the fact that this is probably whey, and his insulin is gonna be constantly spiked? This diet is not gonna work, not in theory, not in practice.

Yeah you're right, shooting down smoking because of some obvious negative health effects without considering any potential positives is a true indication of intelligence.
