Hey now. I'm doing a PL meet in June, and wanna compete at 165 instead of a flabby 181.
I've got a buddy who is about 5'9" and 240 and he looks like a monster, so 308 would be a little big for my 5'7" frame. haha.
I wanna be around 200 when all is said and done.
lol. 308 would be epic.
I don't want my boobs to be bigger than my fiance's

Bench 5/3/1 Week
I was on a mission yesterday, after my sub-par workout last week.
Warmup
Equiblock on my shoulder and back
Band Pull Aparts
Band Rows
Dislocations
Bench
Barx10
95x6
135x5
165x5
185x3
205x3 Much better than 205xmiss last week.
215x1 Off of a 2 Board
225x1 Off of a 2 Board
Switched to my neutral grip bar to try to save my shoulder
85x10
85x10
105x10
105x10
105x10
Assistance
60 Pullups
Rows with my mini and monster mini band
Triceps work with bands
Feeling rather beat up this week. Figured I'd keep things basic so I can put up some decent numbers this week.
I was 177.6 yesterday. Down from around 180-181. Losing the bloat dropped some weight quickly.
I'm heading for 170 so I'm within range for the strongman comp (under 175) and my PL meet (165).
If the cut is going well and I'm ahead of schedule I'll probably drop all the way to 165 so I can eat fairly well in the weeks leading up to any competitions.
Injury:I have an appointment with a sports doctor tomorrow at 3. They had a cancellation and squeezed me in. I've been fighting with shoulder pain for a solid year or more, and I feel like it's time to address the issue and look for a solution other than continuing to ignore it.
I'm hoping this doctor will work with me and understand that "stop pressing" isn't an option for me. I'll figure out a way to train around it, even if I have to train off boards for the next 6 months.

It's basically 2x4's nailed together. shortens the range of motion so you can focus on your lockout strength.
I mainly did it because I wanted to lift something heavy, without effing my shoulder anymore.
I've got a deload coming next week and I'm thinking about doing bench/squat on tuesday and then overheads/deads on friday to maximize the amount of rest I get. Probably throw in extra light workouts in there to promote recovery.
Hoping for a 225 bench sometime next month. Probably gonna push a heavy single on my 5/3/1 week.

I get what you're saying. And right now, no I won't set any crazy records or be the top 50.
I will probably win a meet or two and place in the top 20 of whatever federation I'm in though, and hope to set a record at some point in my life. Which isn't going to happen at 200 pounds, at 165 I have a chance of setting a record/winning some meets.
Thats what my goal is right now. I'd rather pull 500 at 165 than 550 at a loose 190. I'm going to bulk right back up. I'm just cutting the fat by going down to 165-170. Then I'll get back to 180. And repeat until I'm a shredded 170-175.
I'm not cutting to 165 to stay there forever.
Plus I plan on competing at 181 or under in anything. The strongman comps I wanna do are 175& under and 180& under. Those are my goals this year, so I'm doing what I have to do to achieve them.
i dont see this conversation going well with her hahaha.

sometimes hahaha.
i deload next week, but yeah I plan on hitting those numbers soon.
As far as the weight cut goes, the only way i know of breaking it down is using an analogy.
If I was a freshman and got offered a spot on the varsity team (in this situation a higher weight class) but didn't feel like I could be as competitive there, I would stay on the JV team for another year.
Does it mean I'll be an all-state quarterback or the best player on the team? No. But if i feel like i could be more competitive, get experience, and have a better time at that level of competition then thats the right choice for me. I might make a few great plays(win a meet) and learn something along the way.
Then the next year I can train harder and move up to a new level.
To each their own I guess.

To each their own man. I get what you're saying to an extent. I want to succeed at both sports but I'm not going to get totally sloppy with my body at this point in the game. I plan on bulking hard this fall and trying some strong supplements, and at that point, i'll go to 180 or higher and stay there.
I'm just confused on the whole situation I guess.
You're competing at 175 and I know you're actually at the top level, but 3 years ago if someone would have told you to get your weight up to 200 would you have wanted to do that, or would you have had this goal in mind and stayed close to your competition weight?

Im not saying to really bulk either, I'm just against the cut.
To answer your question about weight though yes I gained the weight. If you look back in this forum I came to this section 2 years ago at 140-145lbs now I'm 180. I had about a week where I was trying to figure out do I stay in the 148's or gain some weight. I chose to gain the weight and have put about 400lbs on my total in that time.
If your goal is to be good at strongman and powerlifting gaining mass is something that will need to happen even if you want to stay in the 175's. I understand that you do not want to look like a fat ass and when I say to gain the weight I don't mean asap, I mean over a few years. For your first contest do not worry about weight classes just go have fun, a 1000lb total will feel the same way to you weather it is in the 165's or the 181's, ****ing awsome. If/when you get to a point when record's, titles, ect are a reality then worry about weight but not now, now worry about getting stronger. Everthing seems to be moving in the right direction with your lifts, why possible slow the progress by trying to cut 15lbs?
Edit: What do you mean "strong supps"?

I get what ur saying now. I can def see where ur coming from. And I'm not planning on doing a long cut or anything. Literally just cleaning up my diet for 6 to 8 weeks to just lean out a bit. I plan on getting back up. I really think I'm just pissy about getting fat I wish I wudve put the weight on a bit cleaner.
I'm def not planning on sitting at 160 pounds and being a strongman. Just droppin some fat and reevaluating things. Ill be a much more efficient 180 next fall than what I am right now.
Sorry if I came off as a dick or someone who wasn't open to advice. I thought I had a good approach to it but in hindsight I prolly shud just maintain for my first comp.

If you want to lean out, but not drop weight, here is what I recommend: a recomp diet with a touch of carb cycling.
Lifting days-add 500 calories to maintenance. 100g of carbs and 25g of protein extra.
Non lifting days-subtract 200 calories from maintenance. Take out the 25g of extra protein and kill out 150g of carbs.
I did this for about 14 months and went from 272 at 29% to about 255 at 18%. Both measurements where estimates, but my p/l total went up about 500 pounds in that time frame.★cVc★

Extra Work
Came downstairs about an hour later and did 50 pull aparts, 60 face pulls, and some pushdowns to get blood flowing to the tris.
Heading to a doctor this afternoon to try to figure out my shoulder issue, hoping to be able to press overhead tomorrow, but at this point I may be rehabbing my shoulders and trying to do some work for the tris without upsetting the injury.
