Thanks Dean - it is all my wife's co-workers and their husbands (she is a consultant for Pure Romance - in home parties for women if you know what I'm saying ). I've gotten to know many of them over the years and they are a fun bunch.
- Love working calves. Since I'm still relatively lean, the vascularity I get is out of this world and motivates me to push harder and get that blood pumping in there like nothing else!
Well my typical off-season weight is in the 230s, but I promised myself I won't be going any higher than 210, maybe 215. I hope I can stick to it this time Gonna try to be good and not be a glutton at the party. Will eat something healthy before hand and then just have a few snacks and probably a few beers. Need to make sure I'm well rested for deadlifts tomorrow!

THOUGHTS:
Not too much going on tonight - simply wanted to test my 1RM deadlift. My calculated 1RM going in was 465, but I really wanted more. Turns out I had an extra 10 lbs in me That being said, I'll be using the following maxes for Sheiko #30 which will start after Christmas:
Bench Press - 265
Squat - 365
Deadlift - 475
Gotta believe my back will be less sore than it was last week after pushing deadlifts to the max. We shall see

475 is a pretty impressive pull, even more so at your weight. Nice work Stan!

Thanks guys - I wish it felt lighter though because I realize just how far I am from a 585lb pull now .
As for Sheiko 30, I picked it because I wanted to work at a higher % of my 1RM. Where 29 had me go really no higher than 80%, work sets will be as high as 95% of 1RM and even more volume than 29.
Excited to start it up after the holiday!

Ask questions!
Was chatting with a guy I know at my gym (19 years old) and he plans to compete for the first time in June. He has a pretty good physique for 19 so I was hoping he will do well. I told him I would help with posing and asked how many weeks he plans to prep. His trainer said 6-8 weeks.
I about tell off my desk chair. I said at your current weight/body fat u are going to want 18-20 weeks and that IFBB pros who are in decent shape year round even prep longer than 6-8 weeks. So later that night he mentioned my comments to his trainer, who proceeded to ditch him as a client and blow up at him for questioning it.
Turns out his "trainer" never competed but knows a guy who has. I will be meeting with this kid today to talk about prep and bringing him onto my team.
Lesson for everyone is to always question advice that you get from someone. Especially if u r paying for it, it is your right! I encourage all my clients to ask questions and not take everything I say as the word of God. It's how you learn. If your trainer can't give you an explanation for why you are doing something, that should send off some red flags.
Very excited about so many of my clients competing this upcoming year as I can live vicariously through them since I am taking a break from the stage.

Arm day
Nothing exciting to report today so going to keep it brief. Weighed in at 196.4 lbs. Was an arm day so went in and did whatever I felt like, which consisted of basically:
Rope Extensions (3 sets)
EZ Bar Curls (3 sets)
CGBP (4 sets)
DB Preachers (3 sets)
Skullcrushers (3 sets)
Standing DB Curls (3 sets)
Dips (3 sets)
Tomorrow morning may be a leg workout if I'm up and at 'em in time. Lots of family obligations are creeping up as it is the time of year!

Thanks for the season's greetings, it was a tiring yet exciting Christmas. Watching my son open and play with all his toys was really a great time and I think I could spend everyday doing that instead of going off to work, but alas, back to work today it is....
The lifting contest between my brother and I was cancelled last minute because of a winter storm moving into Pittsburgh today so he had to leave first thing this morning to make the 4 hour drive home before the snow got too bad. Was looking forward to this, but on the bright side, it means I can start Sheiko #30 today instead! Will post up details of that workout later tonight.
As for bodyweight - I'm gonna leave out posting it for a couple days. I think it's safe to say I ate more food yesterday than I did post contest this year. Still under 200 lbs though, which this is the first holiday in probably 5 or 6 years where I weighed under 200 pounds

I hear ya on the Christmas spirit brother. Watching my kids open their toys and gifts was awesome. My 10 yr pld daughter asked for a compound bow this Christmas because she wants to learn to shoot...I was proud : ) We were outside in the back yard on Christmas night shooting targets...that was my favorite gift this year...that hour was priceless.
Glad you too had a wonderful holiday.
I'm ready to hear about this next Sheiko run : )"The code of Bushido is harsh and relentless."

THOUGHTS:
First day of Sheiko #30. Wow was it a long one. About 105 minutes. Lots of volume and heavier work sets than in 29 which was what I was after. Chest soreness is evident today for sure, legs not as much, but I'm feeling it! Tomorrow will be the deadlift day with lots of heavy deads and rack pulls to be had along with a ton of bench pressing. Can't wait! Diet has been pretty much crap since Christmas Eve, as the amount of cookies and various desserts I have stuffed in my pie hole has been amazing. Going to make a concerted effort starting tomorrow to clean things up a good bit and get back on track.

THOUGHTS:
in short, this was 2 hours of all out war with the iron. My front delts were on fire from all the benching as well as still being sore from the other day's workout. Dead lifts and rack pulls seemed to go on forever! Gonna be a hurtin' come tomorrow that's for sure. Hope to be recovered enough for my next workout on Sunday and epic amounts of squats!!
