Hello all. I just Had a fitness test completed and the results were spectacular I am 219 pounds, 7.1% body fat, and 212 lbs of lean body mass. I am in extremely good shape and it's my dream to do body building competitions, but I have a huge problem my love handles still stick out!! I lift every day and I'm even a personal trainer and have been unable to lose these pockets of fat on my side. My diet is even stellar! Before I joined the marines I struggled with obesity so I'm wondering if the love handles could be a result of that and I need to consider surgical options? Or is there still something I can do that I'm just not trying?

Maybe I missed something, but if you are 219# and 7%, you would not have 212 LBM. All you did was sutract 7 from 219, thats not how %'s work. Are you a TROLL? also, post pics, or it aint so.

After seeing the "pics", 16% minimum.

Edit: 18%

I have seen some below 10% bf (accurately) with stubborn areas of fat still prominent but is usually a case of excess skin or lacking of actual muscle. However being over 200lbs, this doent seem small in size. BTW at 219lbs & 7% fat would equal 15.33lbs of fat. I dont know if surgery would even be an option for one that is already so lean. Even if they removed further fat (lowering your bf even further) it would not be maintainable. What form or testing did you do and can you provide pictures?
Edit: Just saw the profile pictures and you are near 7% yet.

You are not near 7.1%, how or who tested it? You really do not believe you are 7% do you?

I don't know what to say about those tests, but I will eat my keyboard if you are under 15%, based on those pics.

Allright well accurate or inaccurate I apologize. Let me rephrase my question. I was once extremely over weight. I no longer am. I am satIsfied withthe way I look other than small ( but noticeable) love handles. I have tried everything to get rid of them. Do you think they could be because I used to be very over weight, or should I be doing more cardio I currently do 30 minutes 3 days a week and I lift 5x a week doing abs 3x a week

There is no such thing as spot reduction of fat. You must lose fat everywhere to lose fat anywhere. While everyone is different and you may lose more fat in one particular area it will depend on your body. Do more cardio to lose fat everywhere and keep up the good work. Congratulation on losing the excess weight and good luck with your future.

Whoever did that test is an idiot. Not because he computed it wrong. But because he didnt realize that it was horribly wrong.

i wouldnt say do more cardio if you want to continue to lose a bit more fat , it really depends on your diet , intensity of fat and rate of current progress ....if everything is moving along at a steady pace and you are happy continue as is , if you arnt losing say an inch around your waist per month you need to either increase your time doing cardio , your exerciseintensity or decrease your cals

You're 15-20% bodyfat, don't ****ing kid yourself and pollute your mind with this bull**** thinking. You have almost no definition in your major muscle groups and basically zero with your smaller muscles like your delts, tris, bis, etc... the notion that you're even anywhere close to 7% is honestly somewhat insulting.
All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident.

Not to be a dick....but if your 7% then I'm 3% water depleated and Carb loaded stage ready (I'm not). STAY AWAY from electronic bf testers and get poded bro. Hit that Cal deficit and see what 7% really looks like .

Look, most of you guys are just jumping all over him for saying he's 7%, obviously we've established that he's nowhere near that. The man wants advice on how to drop the love handles.
OP, I'd advise you to read the stickies at the top of this section of the forum. Here are the basic facts you need to know right now, and then go right from here to the stickies.
- No, you are not 7% BF...probably high teens.
- You cannot spot reduce fat. No amount of side to side oblique work will make them disappear in and of itself.
- You have to lose fat from all over. Which means you need to be in a caloric deficit. Calories in - Calories out = must be negative for loss.
- 3500 calories in a pound. Eat at a deficit of 500-1000 calories a day for 1-2 pounds of loss a week.
- Calculate your BMR (basal metabolic rate) and figure out what you need to achieve a 500-1000 cal deficit a day. Again, the stickies for more details.
- Lifting heavy, eating enough protein (1 gram per pound of lean body mass is generally accepted as the "norm") and getting your macronutrient ratios right should all but ensure that the 1-2 pounds you lose a week will be fat. You may need to adjust cals/macros to get something that works for your body.
Any more questions, feel free to ask here.I apologize for everyone else's butthurtness over a precious BF reading...apparently they knew it all since the day they were born. (Granted, you did have a little ego it seems posting this "fact", but we should be the better people here.) You'll learn all you need by sticking around here and reading a lot.
